Is the "water" project just a master's degree?
The "water" project mentioned in this paper only refers to the admission threshold, which has nothing to do with the quality of education, the difficulty of courses, teachers and employment.
You can't get any marks in these projects, let alone take simple classes and do simple homework. After going to these projects, you can get a diploma comfortably.
Famous schools generally have good courses and strong teachers. Studying in a prestigious school will also let you know many excellent people and face greater peer pressure. Therefore, it is not easy to look at these projects. Please be prepared to make full use of the excellent platforms and resources of prestigious schools.
Is it "water" for a project with a large population in China?
China's large population does not mean that it is "water", especially the CS, DS, statistics and EE programs of science and engineering, because these are the strengths of China people, and China itself has a large population base, so the proportion of international students going abroad is very high, so the number of people in China cannot be absolutely used as the evaluation standard of whether the projects are "water".
For example, the MSCF project of CMU ranks first in the United States, but the proportion of people from China is also very high. At one time, the proportion of foreign students from China with CS master's degree in Yale reached 90%+, and no one in Yale could speak CS water. Moreover, most good schools like UCB and Duke are from China, and these projects are out of the question.
Do domestic employers recognize these qualifications and projects when they return to China for employment after graduation?
Are academic qualifications and settlement in Beishangguang affected?
It is completely different to go back to China to find a job with the aura of a top American university. Most domestic enterprises, especially the top 500 enterprises, really attach great importance to the comprehensive ranking of graduate schools, and even divide the international students of the corresponding schools into job seekers of different grades and levels according to the school ranking, and assign them to different departments and regions (as shown in the figure below, for reference only! )
The HR of these companies have to face the students who are studying abroad and looking for jobs all over the world. They are not fully aware of the specific college information, enrollment and admission requirements of the student program. Simply and rudely looking at the rankings is also a shortcut for them to screen a large number of resumes in the early stage to improve the efficiency of employing people. Therefore, as long as the ranking in the United States is high enough, there is a certain popularity and recognition, and it is not affected to return to China to find a job.
Of course, the settlement and academic qualifications are not affected, because there are explicit policy requirements for settlement, which has nothing to do with the project. Settlement is related to the academic system of studying abroad, the identity of fresh graduates, and whether the big companies that have found the settlement indicators have given them a number of settlement places. As long as you get a master's degree from a regular school, your education can be successfully certified in the overseas academic degree certification system of the Study Abroad Service Center of the Ministry of Education of China (pictured above).
Which prestigious schools can choose the "water" project?
Schools with few "water" projects.
Harvard University, Princeton University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology
Schools with relatively more "water" projects
Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, Washington University in St. Louis.
Schools with fewer "water" projects
University of Chicago, Duke University, Cornell University, UCLA
Schools with low proportion of international students and few water conservancy projects.
Dartmouth University, Brown University, Vanderbilt University, Rice University, Notre Dame University
The lowest GPA of students admitted to these schools is also 3.0+, TOEFL 100, IELTS 6.5-7, GRE3 15-320, GMAT650-700, but the ranking in top20 is slightly lower than the admission scores of other projects in the same school, which does not mean that they can enter at will. For example:
Columbia University
It should be noted that the statement about Columbia CS water circulating on the Internet is not accurate. In fact, the admission of Columbia University CS is very difficult. From the three-dimensional point of view, the minimum GPA is 3.5+,TOEFL 105 or so, GRE 325 or so, plus 2-3 relevant internships and scientific research experiences.
Johns Hopkins University
Northwest University
Duke University
University of Pennsylvania
Washington university in St. Louis
Can I enroll in these prestigious "water" majors as long as my three-dimensional scores meet the minimum standards mentioned above?
Of course not!
If you don't have high scores in three dimensions, but you have high-quality scientific research, strong letters of recommendation, and high-quality documents that can shorten the gap between you and famous schools, some students who were admitted to the "water" program of famous schools a few years ago have internships in big factories, some are Shanghainese, and some have summer research in famous schools and experience in overseas summer schools. These soft backgrounds play a decisive role in their application.
Therefore, students can't just stare at the three-dimensional results, and soft background is becoming more and more important in application.
To sum up, LLM, Education, TESOL and SocialWork are relatively easy to apply for, while mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, materials engineering and civil engineering are relatively easy to apply for compared with CS, EE and DS science and engineering. Similarly, bachelor of arts and accounting in finance, metalworking and business are relatively easy to apply for.
However, the specific application difficulty depends on the college, professional ranking, geographical location, enrollment, proportion of international students, starting time, employment resources and so on. Therefore, the application for prestigious schools is relative and relative, not absolute.
