Resume of Taiwan Province composer Chen Wei

About Chen Wei, here is an interview to briefly introduce his personal experience.

There is a rebellious singer in Taiwan Province province. He can sing, play the guitar, write songs, arrange and mix by himself. Now, he is the producer of many big albums, such as Rhetoric by Huang Yingying, Old Love by CoCo Lee, and even the latest albums by Liang Yongqi and Li Xinjie. Chen Wei's studio is a typical project studio. I heard that it will be promoted to a professional studio soon. His albums can basically be completed by himself, from writing songs, backing singers, arranging, recording, mixing and even playing guitar, harmony, percussion and so on. , can be called eighteen martial arts proficiency. We will visit him in his studio today.

(Fang: Visitor, Chen: Chen Wei)

Fang: Chen Wei, you are back from America. Did you grow up in America?

Chen: Actually, I was 12 years old when I went abroad. In Taiwan Province province before primary school.

Fang: Talk about your musical enlightenment?

Chen: Actually, I didn't study music in primary school, but I like listening to music. I remember my father bought me a turntable. The first song I listened to at that time was something classical like Swan Lake. Later, before going abroad, I began to like listening to things like Bee Gees. When I was in Taiwan Province Province, I played the harmonica guitar and other musical instruments, but I just touched it and stopped playing and didn't learn the piano. What a pity. When I first arrived in America, everyone listened to some rock and roll things, such as Billy Chow, blond hair and blue eyes. The children in the street where I live are older than me. They listen to Fan Hailun, The Iron Lady and so on, and never listen to pop, so I followed the music. Later, I went to a friend's house. He has an electric guitar and a megaphone. I thought it was fun, so I asked him to teach me a simple powerful chord, and then I bought an electric guitar with my mother, Kiss Model. /kloc-start playing at the age of 0/6! !

Fang: When did you really "seriously" play music?

Chen: I stayed in San Diego for a while and didn't find anything interesting. I turned over a book in the bookstore and thought Hawaii was good, so I went by plane. After studying in college for a year, I stopped studying. My friend was short of guitarists, so I joined. Then because there is a man in it who is a flight attendant, our group is called a flight attendant. We are all stewardesses. ! Originally, we wanted to make our own things, not just Pop, but most of Hawaii are tourists, and we can't do it without Pop, except for some venues where we can play our own things, and there is no chance. Later, we thought it was time to do our own thing, so we raised some money and found a local recording studio. The studio owner himself made some things for people, which was quite good at that time. Because I am also a "patron", I usually ask for a song without a chance to sing (I am a guitarist and our group has a double lead singer). The producer thought I sang well, so I thought maybe I could develop in this field. Later, I bought some MIDI things like Yamaha V50, Roland U-220, Emax, Proteus 1 and so on ... They were all first-generation things, and then I bought Tascam's 688 card-type multi-track recording stand, and began to write many songs and make Demo, about 2 1 year old.

Fang: What about the process of learning recording?

Chen: Later, I met the studio owner. He asked me if I was interested in recording. I said yes, and then I learned something. Then I read Mix magazine. When I got rich, I bought several machines and learned while doing. Later, Chen Guanyu and I (recording engineer) opened a recording studio there.

Fang: How to enter the music circle in Taiwan Province Province?

Chen: I know Xue Yue very well. Every time I go back to China, I will listen to my own sample. He encouraged me to come back and help me, but later he died. However, Han Xianguang (head of Phantom Eye) has released Youke Li Lin's first album. At that time, he and Li Yueqi (now general manager of Sony) thought my stuff was good. Later, my work was almost accumulated, so he went to talk to several record companies. Originally, Sony was quite interested in me, but because Sony started in English, it will take two years to release a Mandarin album. Later, I went to Guang Guang (Shen Guangyuan), and he thought my things were not bad, so he divided them. I made all the albums in the first chapter in America. I went to Electric Lady (the recording studio in jimi hendrix) in the United States, and found super musicians such as Chuck Low Lovell, Steve Ferrone (eric clapton) and Anthony Jackson to record. I also recorded some in the Hawaiian studio, and then I went back to Taiwan Province Province.

Fang: When did you start to be a producer?

Chen: Actually, I started doing it in America before. Of course, we have done a lot of live broadcasts before. I have a lot of experience in actual recording and tuning because I have opened a recording studio. I think this experience is good, because you know how to describe the feeling you want.

Fang: When did you become a producer in Taiwan Province Province?

Chen: I started writing songs. Later, the fashion stylist asked me to write three songs, all of which won prizes. Later, Huang Yingying went to Singapore to re-edit, but he was not satisfied and asked the Japanese to re-edit, which was not acceptable. Huang Yingying said that if you make the presentation more carefully, you can hang the arrangement. Then I made up the first song (rhetoric), and she thought it was good. Later, she told me that I simply made it for you.

Fang: Very strict!

Chen: She knows music and is persistent. She can hear the problem and can't fool her if she wants to (laugh). Later, Sony called and said that he had signed a new person and asked me to make five songs. I didn't know it was CoCo Lee.

Fang: What do you think is the difference between the production environment in Taiwan Province Province and the United States?

Chen: The United States is cheap (laughs) and the production speed is slow, so Taiwan Province Province requires high speed.

Fang: The ingredients of American Live are relatively heavy. !

Chen: Yes, but it is a bit like R &;; B, midi is also very heavy. In America, they say that MIDI can't be taken, so they just use Sync tape and mix it directly.

Fang: Was there any inadaptability in the original production in Taiwan Province Province?

Chen: Vocal music is a big problem. We believe that vocal music is also a part of music and should be integrated into music. However, the vocal music here is very advanced and the band is backward, but the producer is responsible to the record company, so I still try to accept it.

Fang: When was the studio established?

Chen: Last year! ! It was established after an appointment with a friendly dog expired.

Fang: Did you record on ProTools' hard disk at first?

Chen: No, I started with Solo from SoundTracs, then I used ProMix 0 1 from Yamaha, then I changed O2R, and recently I changed ProTools, and then I bought a digital mixer from Euphonix.

Chen: Come and visit my recording studio!

Fang: Very spacious. O2R is gone.

Chen: Now a new recording studio is being built, and I bought a mixing platform of Da Yin Xi Sheng from Daicai.

Let's look at the microphone on the radio.

Chen: Neumann's M 149, Neumann's Dyn series ... and AKG's C 12 are used for microphones.

& lt Next, we discussed finding new people and signing contracts >

Fang: Do you usually listen to Chinese songs?

Chen: I seldom listen to it, but there are quite a few foreign ones. I will listen to some recordings, techniques ... and so on. I think everything in Japan sounds similar, except that the lead singer has changed, and the songs are similar. I wonder if they were all taught by the same teacher. It's not bad to have a group called Puffy (Fang: That's American, too! ! )

Fang: We have all experienced many mistakes, and we all have some regrets. Do you have any suggestions for the younger generation who want to work in this field?

Chen: I regret not learning music theory. This is a very basic thing. It can give you more space, and you can write many different things. You can analyze a song and understand the progress of the sound. We all play in groups and catch songs, but it's also a good experience. Some people can't play without reading the music, so they have to improvise in order to write what they want.

Fang: If you want to be an engineer, how should you learn?

Chen: Come to me. I need someone who can use ProTools. This is the fastest way to learn.

Fang: If you want to arrange music?

Chen: At least there must be equipment, a machine with a lot of noise. Playing is also very important, and music theory is also very important.

Fang: Do you need to type it?

Chen: I don't know. I compose music on the guitar. Let's see what inspires your feelings. The instrument doesn't need to be too precise, but you must know the characteristics and frequency of the instrument. Don't put things with the same frequency together. You should analyze other people's music more and listen to what others are doing. I once picked up a pen and recorded what I heard. You don't know what style to use until you have heard enough.

Chen Wei also began to sign new people and set up a production studio. With his strength, he should be very promising. I wish him success! !
