Chang 'an in Tang Dynasty
Now it is Xi City, Shaanxi Province. Chang 'an in the Tang Dynasty was the largest capital with the grandest architecture and the most standardized planning and layout in the ancient history of China.
Chang 'an in Tang Dynasty was called Daxing City in Sui Dynasty. Built in the Sui Dynasty, it was renamed Chang 'an City in the Tang Dynasty. It was the capital of Sui and Tang Dynasties and the largest city in world history at that time.
Chang 'an is a magnificent capital established by Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty, which embodies the grandeur of the unified dynasty. In order to reflect the desire to unify the world and maintain long-term stability, the idea of harmonious coexistence between man and nature is included in the process of urban planning. The urban construction is magnificent, covering an area of 87.27 square kilometers, which is 2.54 times that of Chang 'an in Han Dynasty, 1.45 times that of Beijing in Ming and Qing Dynasties, 7.29 times that of Constantinople, the capital of Byzantine Empire, 2.87 times that of Baghdad built in 800 A.D. and 6.39 times that of Rome. Chang 'an City consists of Miyagi, Imperial City and Outer Guo Cheng, with a prosperous industry and a population of over 6,543,800. After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, Chang 'an City in the Tang Dynasty was repaired in many ways, making the urban layout more reasonable. The establishment of the leading Daming Palace has made the rulers of Li Tang occupy a superior geographical position.
Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty was built according to China's traditional planning thought and architectural style. The city consists of Guo Cheng, Imperial City, Miyagi, Forbidden City and Fangshi. Two cities 108 square meter, covering an area of about 87.27 square kilometers (Daming Palace was newly built in the Tang Dynasty). There are many businesses and palaces in the city. Poets in the Tang Dynasty often say that Chang 'an has a population of one million, which shows the superb level of planning and design of ancient residential buildings in China.
At the end of the Tang Dynasty, it was demolished by Zhu Wen, the great ancestor of Houliang. Its sites are distributed in the urban area, eastern suburbs, southern suburbs (mostly) and western suburbs (a small part) of Xi City, Shaanxi Province.
1996, Chang 'an City Site of Daxing Tang in Sui Dynasty was announced by China people and the State Council as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty
In February of 58 1 year, Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty was proclaimed emperor by the Zen generation Zhou Dynasty, with the title of Da Sui. As Emperor Wendi of the Sui Dynasty was a new dynasty established to replace the old ministers of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Chang 'an was still the capital of the early Sui Dynasty.
However, this is only a stopgap measure. This old capital, which has a history of 780 years since the Han Dynasty, can no longer meet the needs of the new unified dynasty. First of all, Chang 'an City in Han Dynasty has a long history, with decayed palaces and poor water supply and drainage. Sewage is often collected but not discharged, which pollutes domestic water and makes it salty and difficult to drink. Secondly, the north of Chang 'an in Han Dynasty faced the Weihe River. Because the Weihe River often swings from north to south, the capital is in danger of being flooded.
According to "The Romance of Sui and Tang Dynasties", "Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty dreamed that there was no city in the flood, and he hated it and moved the capital to Daxing." Therefore, Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty decided to build another new city on the south slope of Longshouyuan in the southeast. In the second year of Emperor Kai (582), under the auspices of Yuwen Kai, Miyagi and Imperial City were built in only one year or so. In 583, the Sui Dynasty moved its capital to Xindu. Because Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty was famous for Daxing Gong in his early years, he took Daxing as the city name. After Yang Di succeeded to the throne, a canal was dug to connect Daxing and Yangzhou. In the ninth year of the Great Cause (6 13), more than 654.38 million people were used to build the Outer Guo Cheng outside Miyagi and Imperial City, and the overall urban pattern was basically formed.
Li Yuan rebelled, attacked Daxing City to establish the Tang Dynasty, made its capital here, renamed Chang 'an, and changed Daxing Palace to Taiji Palace. Due to the low terrain, high temperature and unusually hot summer in Chang 'an, Taiji Palace is extremely uninhabitable. Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, decided to build a Summer Palace for his father Li Yuan, formerly known as Yong 'an Palace.
Unexpectedly, in the middle of the project, Tang Gaozu died suddenly and the construction of Yong 'an Palace was interrupted. Later, based on the unfinished Yong 'an Palace Li Zhi, Tang Gaozong carried out a large-scale reconstruction project, making it no longer a detached palace, but a formal palace as a symbol of the highest imperial power of the empire, and renamed it Daming Palace, and Taiji Palace was quickly replaced by Daming Palace. In the middle Tang Dynasty, with the construction of Xingqing Palace, the changes of Jiedong Lifang were brought.
The economy and culture of Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty developed very rapidly. During the prosperous Tang Dynasty, Chang 'an City always played the role of the center of the world. Chang 'an City at that time was the largest and most prosperous international metropolis in the world. In its heyday, the population of Chang 'an City exceeded 1 10,000, and gradually declined after the Anshi Rebellion. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, Huang Chao invaded Chang 'an, and the city was seriously damaged. In the first year of God Blessing (904), Zhu Quanzhong kidnapped Tang Zhaozong and moved eastward, and demolished the palace, and the house wood was also transported away. Later, Han Jian thought that the city was sparsely populated, which was not conducive to defense, so he rebuilt the city and reduced it to a "new city", that is, Chang 'an in the Five Dynasties, the Song Dynasty and the Jin and Yuan Dynasties. At this point, the 325-year-old Chang 'an City in Sui and Tang Dynasties was abandoned.
