History of Riverside Pavilion

The riverside pavilion of Guangzhou Children's Library, also known as Yong 'an Hall, was the second tallest building in Guangzhou after Aiqun Building before liberation. This is the main place where Hu Wenhu, a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader, produces and sells Tiger Tiger Tiger balm and other medicines in China.

Yong 'antang Mansion was built in 1930s, with a square plan and five bays on the front and side. The first floor of the building spans the sidewalk in the form of arcade, with a building area of 425 1 m2. The entrance gate is in the east, and the bay has a circular arch. This building is five stories high, and there is a five-story bell tower on it. The appearance is divided into three levels.

Hu Wenhu (1882- 1954), known as "King of Tiger Balm" and "King Bao", was born in Yangon, Myanmar, and his ancestral home was in Yongding County, Fujian Province. He is a famous overseas Chinese entrepreneur, journalist and philanthropist in Nanyang.

1908 inherited the Yong 'antang Chinese Medicine Shop left by his father Hu. According to Chinese and western pharmacology, he assiduously studied the ancient prescriptions of Han, India and Myanmar, used advanced western pharmaceutical technology, and hired doctors and pharmacists to improve the three secret recipes of Yushu Ginseng created by his father into tiger skin tiger balm, which can be used externally and orally, and is easy to carry.

It is estimated that at that time, more than half of the human beings on the earth bought and used "tiger-labeled drugs". Guangzhou Yong 'antang is a branch established in Guangzhou during the heyday of Hu Wenhu's career.

In addition, Hu Wenhu also founded the star-studded Galaxy Newspaper Group, with 16 Chinese and English newspapers, which formed a huge newspaper network all over the world and wrote a remarkable chapter in the history of international news in the 20th century. Moreover, Hu Wenhu was a philanthropist all his life, and donated countless possessions, only contributing to War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. British scholars say "this is an astronomical figure". It can be seen that his heart is pure and patriotic.

Shortly after the liberation of Guangzhou, someone falsely accused Hu Wenhu of being a "traitor", so Guangzhou Yong 'antang was listed as an "enemy-occupied area" and the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions was stationed as a trade union building.

1992 10 The provincial government officially decided to return Yong 'antang to Hu's daughter Hu Xian.

1May 3, 9951day, Hu Xian donated Yong 'an Hall to Guangzhou Municipal Government as a children's library. In the donation ceremony, Gao Siren, secretary of Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee, presented Hu Xian with a commemorative plaque of "meaningful love"; And named Yong 'an Hall "Guangzhou Children's Library in Memory of Mr. Hu Wenhu". Therefore, it has become the cradle of cultivating talents.
