First of all, don't be confused by the identity of the school. As a public institution, the school's main job is to teach and educate people. At this time, it exists as an administrative subject. However, providing accommodation for students, at this time, the school is a civil subject, and providing accommodation for students at school is actually a service provided by the school. At this time, there is an equal civil relationship between students and schools. Students can naturally enjoy property services and other rights when staying at school, and the rights granted to citizens by law are also guaranteed. But sometimes schools will formulate some rules and regulations while providing accommodation, which is also equivalent to the owners' charter in society. Since students agree to live in the dormitory, they naturally need to abide by it.
Monitoring facilities are not so much to monitor students as to ensure the safety of students' personal property. It is not illegal for schools to install cameras in public places in dormitories if it does not involve infringement of students' privacy. But it's best to give students hints in obvious places.
Personally, I think students have the right to view the monitoring data, but you may need to follow a set of procedures of the school. Legal person pays attention to procedural justice. Since it is necessary to check the information, as long as the rules set by the school are reasonable, we must also act according to the rules of the other party.
The above is my humble opinion.
