Haikou is the capital city of Hainan Province.

Haikou, also known as "Coconut City", is a prefecture-level city and provincial capital under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province, a national "Belt and Road" strategic fulcrum city, a core city of Hainan Free Trade Port, an important node city of Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration and a third-tier city.

Haikou was selected by the World Health Organization as the first "World Healthy City" pilot in China.
