Basic working principle of CMOS image sensor
Firstly, the external light irradiates the pixel array, which produces photoelectric effect and generates corresponding charges in the pixel unit. The row selection logic unit gates the corresponding row pixel units as required. Image signals in pixel units of rows are transmitted to corresponding analog signal processing units and A/D converters through signal buses of their respective columns, and are converted into digital image signals for output.
The row selection logic unit can scan the pixel array line by line or interlaced. The combination of row selection logic unit and column selection logic unit can realize the window extraction function of the image. The main function of analog signal processing unit is to amplify the signal and improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
In addition, in order to obtain a practical camera with qualified quality, the chip must include various control circuits, such as exposure time control and automatic gain control. In order to make each part of the circuit in the chip act according to the specified beat, multiple timing control signals must be used. In order to facilitate the application of camera, the chip is also required to output some timing signals, such as synchronization signal, line start signal, field start signal and so on.
