After the name of "Good Xinjiang Dragon"; Professor Dong Zhiming, a dinosaur scientist, made a further interpretation of the naming of "Shanshan Xinjiang Dragon". Professor, deputy director of the National Paleontological Expert Committee and chairman of the Chinese Paleontological Society, represented China Gu in the competition.
Biologists congratulate the discovery and naming of "Shanshan Xinjiang Giant Dragon" and place hope on the fossil protection work represented by dinosaurs in Xinjiang. Wang Lixia, deputy director of the Office of the National Paleontology Expert Committee, went further.
Thoroughly implement the "Measures for the Implementation of the National Regulations on the Protection of Paleontological Fossils" and do a good job in guiding the protection of dinosaur fossils, including "Shanshan Xinjiang Dragon". Leaders of Xinjiang Autonomous Region, Turpan and Shanshan Department of Land and Resources
County leaders, on behalf of the people in the whole region, expressed heartfelt congratulations on the official naming of "Shanshan Xinjiang Dragon", thanked the scientists for their hard work in Shanshan, and put forward prospects for further fossil protection work in the future.
On behalf of foreign experts attending the meeting, Professor Martin, a paleontologist and University of Bonn, Germany, expressed warm congratulations on the naming of "Shanshan Xinjiang Giant Dragon" and thanked the Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Shanshan County government for their efforts in fossil protection and contributions to scientists.
Support for the work was highly praised. ?
"Shanshan Xinjiang Giant Dragon" is the largest Jurassic dinosaur discovered in China so far, which is located in the late Jurassic Guqi Formation in Qiketai area of Shanshan, Xinjiang, with a history of 654.38+600 million years. Dinosaurs are huge, with a length of more than 30 meters and a weight of about 30 tons. The fossil preserved the whole femur (about 2 meters long), tibia, fibula, belt, spine and sacrum, as well as some coccyx, ribs and neck bones. This is the best preserved dinosaur skeleton found in China so far. Set a new record for Jurassic dinosaurs in China for the first time. The fossil was discovered in Qiketai area of Shanshan in 2009 by a joint expedition team composed of Jilin University, Shenyang Normal University, Xinjiang Geological Survey Institute and German scientists led by China paleontologist Professor Sun Ge, and was officially excavated on 201kloc-0/with the approval of the Ministry of Land and Resources. Under the guidance of Professor Dong Zhiming, under the leadership of Dr. Wu Wenhao, a young paleontologist from Jilin University, and Dr. Zhou Changfu, a young paleontologist from Shenyang Normal University, after more than two years of research, this giant sauropod dinosaur was finally named "Gen. et sp. of Titan Mountain Dragon in Xinjiang". This achievement was achieved on September 25th this year.
The published World Geology magazine was officially published. The discovery of "Shanshan Xinjiang Dragon" not only added new important members to the Jurassic dinosaur family in China, but also provided reference for studying the composition and evolution of dinosaur fauna in Xinjiang.
Get new data, and put forward new ideas for further studying Jurassic paleogeography and paleoclimate in Xinjiang and promoting the search for Jurassic sedimentary minerals such as oil and coal. The publication of this achievement marks the study of Jurassic dinosaurs in Xinjiang, China.
Reached a new height. ?
There are abundant paleontological fossil resources in Shanshan area of Turpan, Xinjiang. In the 1960s, Professor Dong Zhiming and others discovered dinosaur fossils such as Shanshanlong, Jiayulong and Sino-Japanese Butterfly Dragon in Cretaceous, which opened the prelude to the study of dinosaur fossils in Turpan, Xinjiang. In 2008, the Sino-German Joint Laboratory of Paleontology and Geology led by Professor Sun Ge and the expedition team of Sino-German Xinjiang Geological Workstation discovered the world's largest Jurassic dinosaur footprint group for the first time in Qiketai area of Shanshan, and a huge turtle fossil group was discovered in 20 12. 20 1 1 year
With the support of the National Paleontological Fossil Expert Committee of the Ministry of Land and Resources, and with the great assistance of the Xinjiang Department of Land and Resources, Turpan area and Shanshan county government, the scientific research team carried out the research on the giant dinosaur site in Shanshan Xinjiang.
Large-scale excavation has finally achieved gratifying results. Since last year, the scientific research team has found several new sauropod fossils near the fossil site of "Shanshan Xinjiang Dragon" and the associated carnivorous theropod dinosaur teeth.
And fossils of bivalves, spiders, fish and plants. The new discovery of these fossils is to show the paleogeography and palaeoecology of Jurassic in Shanshan, Xinjiang and even the whole Turpan area, to study the stratigraphic correlation and era in depth, and to restore
At that time, the overall appearance of the "dinosaur house" played an important role. ?
In view of the discovery of the above-mentioned series of important fossils, since 2008, according to the spirit of the Regulations on the Protection of Paleontological Fossils and other documents, under the guidance of the Department of Land and Resources of the Autonomous Region and the Turpan Regional Administrative Office, the Shanshan County Government has formulated a plan for the protection of paleontological fossils, invested a lot of manpower and material resources, and effectively carried out the fossil protection work represented by dinosaur fossils. Since 20 1 1 year
Since then, with the strong support of the National Expert Committee on Paleontology and Fossils and experts at home and abroad, the Shanshan county government has further defined the contents and objectives of fossil protection in the new period, and started to develop the "National Geopark" in combination with fossil protection.
Construction planning and application have achieved remarkable results. The naming ceremony and the site meeting of fossil protection will play an important role in the further development of fossil protection, development and utilization in Turpan area and Shanshan county of Xinjiang.
Promoting effect. ?
After the site meeting and naming ceremony, experts and scholars attending the meeting visited two newly discovered dinosaur fossils near the "Shanshan Xinjiang Dragon" fossil. Among them, the dinosaur at "East 1" has shown a fossil skeleton about 14 meters long and is also a large sauropod dinosaur; The dinosaur femur fossils from "North 2 o'clock" have been seen with the length exceeding 1.5m, which is similar to "Shanshan Xinjiang Giant Dragon". Experts agree that Shanshan's "dinosaur home" will surely become an important fossil protection producing area and one of the main geological and paleontological tourist attractions in China.
