Elegance and Xiaoya in The Book of Songs

The Book of Songs is the first collection of poems in China, in which two poems, Elegance and Xiaoya, truly reflect the life of the Zhou emperors, princes and nobles from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period, and show the real face of the upper-class social life at that time. Most of these poems are sung to the music of various ceremonies, and their names are related to the occasion when these poems were first used. Poetry used in important ceremonies is called "Elegance", while others are called "Xiaoya".

The Book of Songs contains 305 poems from the early Western Zhou Dynasty to the mid-Spring and Autumn Period, which is the first collection of poems in the history of China. Among them, "Ya" is the most abundant poem, which truly reflects the life of Zhou Tianzi, princes and nobles, and shows the true face of upper-class social life in that era. These poems are mostly used in various ceremonies and music performances.
