Both Shangcheng District and Xiacheng District of Hangzhou are downtown areas.

Hangzhou is located in the south wing of China Yangtze River Delta, the west end of Hangzhou Bay, the lower reaches of Qiantang River and the southern end of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is an important central city in the Yangtze River Delta and a transportation hub in the southeast of China.

The city origin (zero kilometer sign) is located at the coordinate origin of Weizi Garden in Shangcheng District.
