Reasons for Ananda Yoga Fasting

On the earth, no animal is full of undigested, fermented, spoiled and unnatural food because of overeating, like the so-called civilized human beings. Preservatives, pigments, seasonings and other chemicals are added to the food we eat, which adds more toxins to our bodies. In cities, we breathe in exhaust gas from factories and cars, gas for cooking and take a lot of medicines every day. Whenever we are in some kind of emotional tension or extreme depression, especially negative emotions, such as fear and hatred, our glands will produce a lot of strong hormones and enzymes, which will make our body more nervous. Some of these toxic wastes will be excreted from the skin through the kidneys, intestines or when sweating. But many toxins attach to cells, organs, glands, arteries and veins, and flow in the blood. These toxins are not easy to eliminate.

Doctors believe that these toxins accumulated in the body are the main cause of diseases, not dangerous foreign bacteria. Only when our bodies are weakened by too much pollution can bacteria and pathogens affect us. Bacteria and pathogens always exist in the air around us, in the food we eat, and in our bodies. Only when the body gets dirty and gives them a chance to grow and reproduce in the body will they give in. This explains why people are exposed to the same germs, and only some people will be infected.

Disease is the body's efforts to remove waste, mucus and toxins that hinder normal function. The body must treat and eliminate all toxins accumulated from childhood, not diseases. Careful observation of some of the most common diseases can illustrate this fact.

We often clean the house and get rid of waste and accumulated rubbish, but we never want to clean the inside of our bodies. The best way to clean the inside of our bodies is to stop eating. No one will try to clean the urban water supply system and remove all the clogged filters before cutting off the water supply first. The same is true of fasting, which prevents food from flowing into the body and gives the body a chance to clean itself automatically. When you fast, you force your body to continue working, digest the accumulated and surplus waste in the body, and then excrete it, thus purifying the whole body. Many people are afraid of fasting. They think that fasting means hunger. This idea is completely incorrect. Proper fasting is never harmful. In fact, this is the only way to conserve energy and let nature concentrate on fighting diseases.
