In the early 1950s, when we went to the countryside to collect folk songs, a folk singer casually listed them with figures in order to show the splendor of Dongyang folk songs: one silk, two girls' lovesickness, Saburo, four seasons tune, five songs, six lovers, seven flowers, eight immortals and nine rings. In the magnificent folk songs, musicians have been discerning and refined. The only special issues published at or above the provincial level are the leek song, Looking forward to the girl, My mother, Impatiens, Pastoral, Visiting the bridal chamber, What to send my little sister, Mother Pig, and Sister-in-law Watching the Lights, among which Pastoral, Visiting the bridal chamber and December have participated in provincial performances. In particular, three songs, namely "Chiffon Song", "Looking forward to Girl" and "My Mom", were rehearsed by the Choir of Zhejiang National Song and Dance Troupe on 1956, and participated in the performance of the first National Music Week. This simple and unique Dongyang folk song originated in Beijing. Among them, leek song was recognized and praised by the chairman of the Chinese Music Association, calling it "quality, sincerity and implication". Wang Xin, dean of Tianjin Conservatory of Music, wrote an article in the magazine, commenting that "the creaking sound is particularly lively and interesting when the second sound is added to the arrangement." Although foreigners can't understand the dialect singing "My Mom", through vivid performances, the audience fully understood the two dramatic plots of my mom's conflict and reconciliation, and applauded.
These three songs were introduced in National Songs, Selected Songs of East China Radio and Selected Songs of Zhejiang, and recorded by China Studio.
Then, Dongyang folk songs "Impatiens" and "Lotus with Hundred Works" broke ground again. People call it "impatiens, full of flowers." After the publication of Selected Performing Songs in Beijing in 1980s, it was rated as "Excellent Folk Songs" in Zhejiang. Later, Mr. Hong Tiecheng re-conceived, split and combined four folk songs: Impatiens, Leek Song and Looking forward to the Girl and Mother-in-law, and became the sister of Meihua with a brand-new image, heading for the times and appearing in CCTV in the form of group singing. On May 15, 2005, Dongyang folk songs "Impatiens" and "Lotus with Hundred Works" showed their elegance on the stage of "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival and became the representative works of Jiangnan folk songs in the column "Memories of China".
Dongyang folk songs are rich in life and local characteristics, and they are a string of bright pearls. Such as impatiens, mother-in-law, songs of leeks, girls who are expecting, etc. After continuous reform and innovation, they are still widely welcomed by the people. Masterpieces with such artistic charm and quantity can indeed be called "artistic treasures with magnificent colors". Experts pointed out that Dongyang folk songs are fully qualified to be declared upwards and listed as intangible cultural heritage protection projects at all levels.
