It is said that soybean milk, fried dough sticks and big cakes are the main force of breakfast in China, but in Jinhua, big wooden barrels filled with glutinous rice on tricycles all over the street are the mainstream. Early in the morning, the vendors rode tricycles, carried glutinous rice and various small side dishes, found a busy place and started their business all morning. Glutinous rice is not picky, whether it is sweet local brown sugar in Yiwu, sauerkraut, pickled mustard tuber, bean curd, sour beans, pickled radish, pickled cucumber, dried plum, or fried dough sticks. The stall owner's action is also very fast. He shoveled half a spoonful of glutinous rice, spread it on the towel, smoothed it, shoveled another spoonful of rice, tightened the towel and squeezed it hard. Very suitable for busy office workers.

Glutinous rice is "warm-hearted" (in my hometown, it means it is not easy to digest), so children should not eat more. But when I was in primary school, breakfast was mostly glutinous rice, for nothing else, one was cheap and the other was full. At that time, the family only gave one yuan pocket money every day. Although I like to eat hot Fujian soup with soup for breakfast (a soup mixed with various vegetables and rice flour skin), it costs 80 cents for a bowl. At noon, although I bring my own food to the canteen to steam it, I need to buy my own food, the cheapest is fifty cents. Otherwise, you can only eat prunes or pickled mustard tuber fried at home. But fortunately, there are many side dishes to choose from, otherwise I would have been tired of eating glutinous rice.

It is said that southerners like sweetness, and I am no exception. Brown sugar and glutinous rice are often chosen for breakfast. Brown sugar is from Yiwu. Yiwu's brown sugar is very famous in my hometown, and the price is also very cheap. The glutinous rice in the big barrel is steaming. The skilled shopkeeper skillfully shoveled out half a spoonful of glutinous rice, spread it on the towel, scooped up a spoonful of brown sugar and scattered it all over the floor. The shopkeeper's aunt is very generous. She is always worried that our children will not have enough to eat, so she gives us a lot of glutinous rice and brown sugar. She often says while holding it: Nong (you) must finish one (this) glutinous rice, so that you have the spirit (energy) to study.

The dumplings just made are still hot, so it is best to eat at this time. Sticky glutinous rice grains and sweet brown sugar, nourished by sweetness, give full play to their best taste. The more you chew the rice, the sweeter it becomes. In a short time, all the rice balls fall into your stomach. Of course, if you like salty dishes, I recommend dried plums. Steamed prunes with fat meat are best for next meal. Salted plum with oil and lard is definitely the best combination.

It is also a good choice to put a spoonful in the glutinous rice balls. When I grew up, I saw Cai Lan's lard bibimbap, and my saliva was unconsciously gurgling in my throat. But in the end, I still eat dried plums mixed with rice or glutinous rice. Maybe I won't try pure lard bibimbap, because in my life, it is my heart to have dried plum vegetables with steamed meat that is oily and smooth.

Compared with the delicacy of Japanese sushi, the dumplings in my hometown are more rough and casual. You can do it with people or build it with things. You don't need to pay attention to skills or special equipment. In short, it is a kind of food for ordinary people, and it can be seen everywhere in the streets. The price is also cheap, from fifty cents when I was a child to four dollars now, which the public can afford.
