In 1990s, computer network communication technology developed rapidly, and high-speed multimedia communication with computer technology and optical fiber transmission technology as the core was developed. Due to the popularization and application of digital analog signal technology, it used to be a separate computer data communication, but now it can be combined with traditional analog information communication such as voice and video, so that computer communication can be combined with telephone, fax, radio and television and other communication methods to gradually synthesize a single communication system. As a part of communication system, the technologies of local area network, metropolitan area network and wide area network have developed greatly in the 1990s. At present, the communication of multimedia information such as data, text, voice, image and video has become a reality, and the integrated services digital network (ISDN) technology has matured, and various communication exchanges include circuit switching and packet switching. Various channels, wired and wireless channels, including twisted-pair cable, coaxial cable, optical cable, terrestrial microwave and satellite micro-channel, combine with each other to form a composite communication network, which transcends the limitation of time and space and spreads information on a global scale. The most representative communication application is Internet communication, which combines the communication technology of WAN, LAN and single computer all over the world. It is the largest communication network in the world with the widest coverage and the largest number of communication nodes. It has created unprecedented communication conditions for news communication, cultural and scientific communication, commercial advertisements, information consultation and people's production, work and life all over the world, and created a brand-new environment for people to spread information.
Because the bandwidth requirement of local area network is infinite. Following the technology of switched Ethernet and fast Ethernet, the industry put forward the idea of Gigabit Ethernet in 1994, and in the first half of 1998, the technical standard of Gigabit Ethernet running on optical fiber and short-distance copper wire media was established, and some network manufacturers also launched corresponding products.
