The responsibilities of the Cultural Relics Bureau include but are not limited to:

1. Draw up the development plan of cultural relics and museums, draw up the standards and methods of cultural relics identification and museum management, organize the investigation of cultural relics resources, participate in drafting laws and regulations on cultural relics protection and be responsible for supervision and inspection.

2. Coordinate and guide the protection of cultural relics, perform the duties of cultural relics administrative law enforcement inspectors, organize and investigate major cases of illegal cultural relics according to law, and cooperate with relevant departments to investigate major cases of cultural relics crimes.

3, responsible for the supervision of the protection and management of world cultural heritage, organize the review of the declaration of world cultural heritage, cooperate with the housing and urban-rural construction departments to review the declaration of world cultural and natural double heritage, and cooperate with the housing and urban-rural construction departments to be responsible for the protection, supervision and management of historical and cultural cities (famous towns and villages).

4, responsible for the management and guidance of the national archaeological work, organize and coordinate the implementation of major cultural relics protection and archaeological projects, undertake the relevant work to determine the national key cultural relics protection units.

5. Responsible for promoting the improvement of the public service system of cultural relics museums, formulating the public sharing plan of cultural relics museum resources and promoting its implementation, guiding the business work of national cultural relics museums, and coordinating exchanges and cooperation among museums.
