Singapore's education system

primary education

In Singapore, most children must receive six years of primary education. These six years are divided into four basic stages (Primary One to Primary Four) and two directional stages (Primary Five to Primary Six).

In the basic stage, the main subjects of the school are English, mother tongue and mathematics, and other auxiliary subjects include music, arts and crafts, physical education and civic education. Students in the third grade of primary school began to study science. In order to enable students to give full play to their potential, the school will adopt a placement education system in the fourth grade of primary school according to students' learning ability. In Singapore, primary school students must pass the Grade Six Graduation Examination (PSLE) to complete their primary education.

The current primary school teaching system in Singapore is conducive to the healthy development of children's body and mind. Singapore is particularly good at teaching students the skills and methods of mastering mathematics, and many foreign schools have borrowed from Singapore's teaching methods.

If there are places, foreign students can apply for admission to relevant schools.

secondary education

Schools in Singapore are divided into government schools, government-funded schools and independent schools. After entering middle school, students must receive four to five years of secondary education. According to students' learning ability, the school will arrange students to participate in ordinary courses, accelerated courses or special courses. After four years' study, students who have taken express courses and special courses can take the Cambridge Certificate of General Education (general level) examination in middle schools jointly organized by Singapore and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. Students who take general education courses can choose general education (academic) courses or general education (technical) courses, and pass the Cambridge Certificate of General Education (elementary level) examination after four years of middle school. If students pass the exam, they can take the Cambridge Certificate of General Education (General Level) exam in the fifth year of middle school.

Besides English and mother tongue, the main compulsory subjects for middle school students are mathematics, science and humanities. Middle school students can take elective courses according to their grades when they enter the third grade. These elective courses include liberal arts, science, business and engineering.

Singapore has cultivated tens of thousands of talented people with imagination and wisdom by using excellent teaching materials and high-quality teaching methods. Therefore, Singapore's education system is widely recognized in the world education field.

If there are places, foreign students can sign up for local middle schools.

Junior college/senior high school

After passing the Cambridge General Level exam, middle school students can apply for two-year junior college courses or three-year senior high school preparatory courses, laying a good foundation for entering universities to receive higher education. In addition to studying general examination papers and mother tongue, college students must also choose four subjects from their liberal arts, science or business elective courses to take the Cambridge Certificate of General Education (Advanced Level) exam. Students who have completed two or three years of junior college or senior high school courses can take the Cambridge Certificate of General Education (Advanced Level) exam jointly organized by Singapore and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.

Foreign students can also attend junior colleges and high schools. Whether they can enroll depends on whether there are places for foreign students in the college where they enroll.

College of Science and Engineering

It is worth mentioning that Singapore Institute of Technology provides students with practical training courses related to their courses. At present, there are five polytechnics in Singapore:

Nanyang Polytechnic

Yian Institute of Technology

Singapore Institute of Technology (Singapore Institute of Technology)

Temasek Institute of Technology

* * * and Republican Institute of Technology.

The Institute of Technology offers a variety of courses according to market demand. Courses offered include mechanical engineering, business administration, mass communication, design and information communication. The college also offers courses in many special subjects, such as optometry, marine engineering, nurse training, early childhood education, video and film production.

It is very relevant that the skills and experience of polytechnic graduates keep pace with the latest economic development. Therefore, science and engineering graduates are hot in the job market. Employers generally do not need to provide pre-job training for polytechnic graduates after hiring them.

College of technical education

The technical education institute has perfect training equipment, which can provide comprehensive technical training for middle school graduates and enable them to master a skill. Students interested in technology can enter the Institute of Technology Education for training. In addition to providing full-time technical training for middle school graduates, the Institute of Technical Education also provides training courses for working people in society, creating opportunities for them to continuously learn and improve their working ability.

University education

There are three local universities in Singapore.

National University of Singapore

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

Singapore Management University (SMU)

These three universities not only trained a large number of outstanding internationally recognized university graduates, but also provided a good environment for graduate students to study and discuss knowledge.

National University of Singapore

Since its establishment, 1905 has trained many outstanding talents. The main courses offered are science, mechanical engineering, science and technology, law, liberal arts, sociology, medicine and so on.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

Founded in 198 1, it mainly trained talents in engineering and technology for Singapore in the early days. Singapore Institute of Education is now a part of Nanyang Technological University. This is a normal college. At the same time, Nanyang Technological University also offers courses in accounting, business and mass communication.

Singapore management university

This is a university recently established in 2000. This is also the first local private university to receive government subsidies. The main courses offered include business and management courses.

private school

In Singapore, active and diversified private schools offer many all-inclusive and distinctive courses. They provide more choices and opportunities for China and international students. At present, there are more than 300 private schools in the local area, and the courses offered are set according to the development and demand of the market, including business administration, information technology, art and language.

While creating a good learning environment for students, private schools also provide students with general diplomas, junior college diplomas, bachelor diplomas and master diplomas. Private schools usually offer courses jointly with internationally renowned universities in the United States, Britain and Australia, so that students have the opportunity to have international-level diplomas without paying expensive tuition fees.

Every private school has different registration dates and procedures. Interested students can contact the relevant schools directly.

Students should pay attention to the following aspects when choosing a school:

Course content provided by the school.

Is the diploma recognized?

School facilities (classrooms, computer equipment, etc.). )

Services for international students (accommodation and visa services, student sources, student consultation, etc. )

In order to ensure that private educational institutions in Singapore provide high-quality education and standardized operation required by the education department, the following "Consumer Association Guarantee Mark" education certification scheme and "Singapore Quality Rating System" must be implemented.

Consumer Association Guarantee Logo Education Certification Scheme

The Consumer Association Assurance Logo Education Certification Scheme is a project for private educational institutions launched by the Consumer Protection Association of Singapore.

From September 1 2005, only private educational institutions that have obtained the guarantee mark of consumer associations can recruit international students to join their projects in Singapore.

The scheme was launched by the Singapore Consumers Association specifically for the education sector. The purpose of this certification mark is to ensure that private educational institutions can better meet the standard operating requirements, so as to continue to recruit international students into their projects and courses.

Private organizations that have obtained the guarantee mark of Consumers Association are recognized as having high-quality student welfare and rights protection measures and standards.

This private organization has the following mechanisms

Transparency of tuition policy

The system for students to claim compensation is clear.

Commitment of public and private educational institutions to quality

A well-trained teacher

This will make international students and their parents more confident in the system and operation of private educational institutions, ensure that they enjoy better welfare in Singapore and protect their interests. The Consumer Association guarantees that the implementation of the symbol education certification scheme will ensure that private institutions provide the best possible academic standards, organizational structure and student welfare and safety measures.

To obtain the educational certification of the consumer association guarantee mark, private educational institutions must meet two conditions:

1) student rights protection plan

2) Opening of standard contract

Student interest protection plan

The student rights protection program aims to protect the tuition fees paid by international students.

Protection plans are divided into the following two types:

Tuition account (custody) is managed by DBS Bank and HSBC Bank.

The tuition fees paid by students to private educational institutions will be entrusted to authorized third parties, namely DBS Bank and HSBC Bank. If private educational institutions meet certain conditions, banks will pay their tuition fees. If a private educational institution cannot continue to operate because of bankruptcy and/or being ordered to suspend business, or if a Singapore court decides that a private educational institution must pay a fine or refund tuition fees, but the private educational institution cannot repay them, the bank will stop paying tuition fees to it.

Tuition insurance managed by Yingkang Insurance Cooperative in vocational colleges.

If a private educational institution can't continue to operate due to bankruptcy and/or being ordered to close down, or a Singapore court decides that a private educational institution must pay a fine or refund tuition fees, but the private educational institution can't repay it, or the student dies or is permanently disabled, tuition insurance will compensate the tuition fees paid by the student to the private educational institution in advance.

form contract

All private educational institutions have prepared standard contracts, thus making the recruitment of international students more transparent. The contract will list the tuition fees, the start and end dates of the course, the teaching facilities provided by the school and the students' right of recourse when the tuition fees need to be refunded.

Singapore's quality level system

The establishment of Singapore's quality level system is to encourage commercial organizations to strive for outstanding business performance. Singapore's quality level system is comparable to many excellent international business systems, such as Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the United States, Quality Award in Europe, Quality Award in Japan and Excellent Business Award in Australia. Singapore's quality level system aims to encourage commercial groups to strengthen their internal management systems, improve work efficiency and enhance their competitiveness.

Singapore's quality-oriented private educational institutions take Singapore's quality-oriented system as the standard, and most of the private educational institutions that have won the title of quality-oriented in Singapore have sound management systems. When a private educational institution applies to become a quality grade school in Singapore, Singapore's quality grade system will grade each private educational institution according to relevant standards, including the management level, human resource management and business operation process of the educational institution. Besides. The applied private educational institution must also meet some main conditions, such as whether the courses offered by the educational institution are recognized and approved by the relevant departments, and whether the educational institution can provide perfect student services for international students.

In order to encourage private educational institutions to upgrade their level in an all-round way, all high-quality private educational institutions in Singapore can enjoy the following privileges:

A

Applying for a student pass through the "green channel" shortens the application time, and international students do not need to pay a deposit.

B

Supported by the overseas promotion plan of the Singapore International Enterprise Development Agency (to help organize overseas study tours and promote business investment) and the Singapore Tourism Board (to attract international students).

Foreign schools and international schools

Schools of foreign origin or international schools provide international students with an education system similar to their own countries. These schools must be registered with the Ministry of Education of Singapore, and the education system adopted is consistent with the education system of the foreign students' home countries.

There are many foreign schools and international schools in Singapore that provide educational services for foreigners and permanent residents. Some international schools adopt minimum admission standards, for example, students must pass a language proficiency test, and the nationality of students is also one of the factors that determine whether students can enter international schools. Every international school in Singapore has a different teaching system.

Tuition fees are different at each stage of study. The tuition fee for primary classes is about S $4,600 to S $14,000 per year, while the tuition fee for primary classes and above is about S $6,000 to S $18,000 per year. Every international school has a different academic year and semester.
