Introduction:
In Shanghai in 1930s, Shen (Dawn), who is introverted, and (Dawn), who is cheerful, met and fell in love at first sight. Man Zhen's sister, Manlu (Anita Mui), gave up her lover to earn money as a dancer in order to support her family, and later lived with a young man with a wife and daughter (Ge You).
Manlu asked Man Zhen to accompany her after giving birth. That night, drunken Cai Hong defiled Man Zhen. Manlu tried to persuade Man Zhen to marry Cai Hong and put Man Zhen under house arrest. Shi Jun lost Man Zhen and his father died of illness. Under the arrangement of his family, he married Cui Zhi (Wu Chenjun), a rich girl. When Man Zhen gave birth to a baby in the hospital, she finally found a chance to escape. She immediately inquired about Shi Jun, and later learned that he was married and didn't look for Shi Jun again. ...
This is a film adapted from Zhang Ailing's novel of the same name. In the film, the feelings of Shi Jun and Man Zhen are well written, with a subtle beginning, sweet love and helpless separation. No epic love story is epic and earth-shattering, but it is pitiful. The director's casting is excellent, and Shen Hegu in the original novel is vivid in the film. Anita Mui, in particular, got a lot of opportunities to show her acting skills, and she also performed her deep affection for Jin, her regret for Man Zhen and her love and hate for red dishes just right.
