Playing slingshots is not illegal. Although the slingshot is powerful, it is not within the scope of controlled equipment.
China mainly controls knives and firearms:
1. Daggers must be held by professional hunters and field operators such as geology and exploration, except those equipped by the People's Liberation Army and the People's Police as weapons and police equipment, and must be certified by competent units at or above the county level.
2. Factories and workshops that manufacture controlled knives must be examined and approved by the competent authorities at or above the county level, and approved by the local county and municipal public security bureaus, and the production of special tools can only be started after the production license is issued.

If a unit equipped with guns for civilian use rents or lends guns in violation of the regulations on gun control, resulting in serious consequences or other serious circumstances, the directly responsible person in charge and other directly responsible personnel shall be punished in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Criminal Law. Individuals equipped with civilian guns who rent or lend guns in violation of gun control regulations, resulting in serious consequences, shall be punished in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Criminal Law. If a person rents or lends guns in violation of the regulations on gun control, if the circumstances are minor and do not constitute a crime, the public security organ shall detain the person in charge of an individual or unit and other directly responsible personnel for less than 15 days and may also impose a fine of less than 5,000 yuan; Firearms leased or lent shall be confiscated.

The following units can be equipped with civilian guns:
(1) Units specialized in shooting competitive sports approved by the sports administrative department of the provincial people's government and business shooting ranges approved by the public security organs of the provincial people's government can be equipped with shooting sports guns;
(2) Hunting grounds approved by the forestry administrative department of the people's government at or above the provincial level may be equipped with shotguns;
(3) Units engaged in wildlife protection, reproduction and scientific research may be equipped with shotguns and anesthetic injection guns due to business needs.
