Is it a big story to see the "big world" on Shenyang Road?

There is an old saying in Shenyang that has been circulating for hundreds of years. It's called "You can't see the world until you get to the city". Therefore, in the past, people had to see this "big world" first when they entered the city. In fact, this big world is not a scene, but a special stone tablet, the scientific name is "Shijinglou", which is located in the southwest corner of Dazheng Hall of Shenyang Forbidden City.

The Great World, also known as the "Big Ten Faces", is an octagonal stone pillar, which consists of three parts: the canopy, the building body and the building seat, with a total height of 2. 1 meter. The top of the canopy has long since disappeared; The roof is octagonal pavilion eaves, with tile ridges on the top and eaves on the bottom; The corner is a bucket arch with two arches; The building is surrounded by eight sides, and there are five or six lines of inscriptions on each side, with a total of 577 words, but most of the handwriting has long been blurred; This building has eight sides, and each side has a relief image of a giant salamander. Because of its eight sides and top and bottom, it is commonly known as the big ten sides, which is homophonic. The classic building was originally an integral part of the temple, equivalent to a stone tablet with inscriptions, mantras, Buddha names and so on. And recorded the age of temple architecture.

Don't underestimate this stone tablet. Although there have been different opinions for many years, it has a history of at least 1000 years. As early as the 29th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1903), some people regarded it as a relic of the Tang Dynasty, but in 1934, others denied this statement. Later, after a lot of research and textual research, experts and scholars found that according to the characteristics of the times, the artistic modeling of stone buildings and the style of writing words, it completely conformed to the characteristics of Buddhist scriptures carved by classical buildings in the Five Dynasties and the Early Song Dynasty. Even in the Liao and Jin Dynasties, it was certain that Ten Faces should be relics of the Tianzuo Emperor period at the end of the Liao Dynasty. Experts and scholars also confirmed through historical data that the Liao Dynasty built Chongshou Temple near Baita Primary School in Beishuncheng Road, Shenyang, and built the famous "White Pagoda of Chongshou Temple", which should be the remains of Chongshou Temple.

Even if Dajiaomian is an ancient cultural relic of 1000 years old, what's the use of not seeing it? According to the folk saying, in the city, the Ten Faces can play a magical role in exorcising evil spirits, eliminating diseases and eliminating disasters, which is equivalent to the power of the Monkey King Ruyi Golden Hoop. Therefore, business people, people who do all kinds of things, and even citizens should go to worship.

Why are most of the handwriting on the faces of the top ten people blurred? It is because everyone had to touch it twice before, and the top ten faces were polished, and the handwriting naturally became more and more unclear. An old man talked about the magic of the big ten faces and said that when he was a child, he saw a van running wildly in the street. At that time, the streets were crowded with people and the situation was very critical. However, when the frightened horse rushed in front of the big ten faces, it miraculously stopped suddenly, avoiding a casualty accident. Car boss jumped out of the car and kowtowed to Big Ten.

Where can I see such magical top ten faces in the city? Now, of course, I'm going to the Forbidden City, but not in the past. According to historical records, in the ninth year of Qing Daoguang (1829), he stood on the south side of Donghuamen, Shenyang Road, in front of the Forbidden City. In the early days of the People's Republic of China, the Great Ten Faces still stood there.

When it comes to Shenyang Road, which stands on all sides, it is an old hand, because its "longevity" can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty. East-west Shenyang Road, located between Huaiyuan Gate (Great West Gate) and Fujinmen Gate (Great East Gate), is more than 1000 meters long, 16 meters wide and 10 meters at its narrowest point, which is the center of the urban area. According to historical records, from the beginning of the establishment of Shenyang in the Western Han Dynasty to the establishment of its capital in the Qing Dynasty, it was centered on Shenyang Road and gradually spread around to form a square city. In the early Qing Dynasty, the middle section of Shenyang Road, that is, between Donghuamen and Xihuamen, belonged to the inner court of the palace, and pedestrians were not allowed to pass. Up to now, the officials of civil and military affairs have had to dismount, and the "dismount monument" still exists.

There are music pavilions, east and west rooms, secretarial office, screen wall, Eight Banners yamen, sedan chair racecourse and other building facilities in the middle section of Shenyang Road. There are six yamen nearby, including Duchayuan, Official Department, Housing Department, Ministry of War, Ministry of Punishment and Ministry of Industry, as well as many government offices such as Fengtianfu, Zongrenfu, Chengde County Lobby and Fengtian Administrative Office, as well as Prince Cheng, Prince Su and King Rao Yu. So passers-by could only bypass the intersection of Donghuamen and Xihuamen at that time. In other words, Shenyang Road was not allowed to walk casually before, and the top ten faces were not so good.

About the top ten aspects, the more people spread, the more strange it is. According to legend, there is a well outside the Donghua Gate of the Forbidden City (where it used to stand on ten sides), which is said to lead to the western paradise. One night, Nurhachi had a dream that the living Buddha in the Western Heaven asked him for a yellow robe. As soon as he woke up, he ordered 3,000 elite generals to make a wish in the Western Heaven. Because roads were blocked by mountains and water, food and grass were exhausted, and countless people were exhausted and starved to death. Unable to bear it, the general ordered the ranks to disperse and struggle on their own.

This touched God, so he sent two prodigies to take him west and finally reached the paradise in the west. The two prodigies urged the northernmost room in the west corridor of the Buddhist temple not to enter, and the words were gone. The general worshipped the living Buddha and presented a yellow robe. After that, I was curious and wanted to see the north house in the west corridor. Who knows I'm in big trouble?

When the general entered the room, he was surprised to see a man with a heavy snoring on his back and covered in dust. Suddenly, two wizard prodigies came to the front and said strangely, "this is not good." Who do you think this man is? This man is Hanwang Nurhachi. If he sleeps a little longer, he can be emperor for one more day. You wake him up and he will start at once! " Hearing this, the general asked, "What's the solution?" "There is no way to solve it," said the two prodigies. "Go back to Shengjing to see Hanwang immediately!" "It's a long way. How can we get there in an instant?" A child prodigy taught him this and that. He went to a well in the Buddhist temple and jumped down, only to hear the wind whistling in his ear. When he opened his eyes, he had emerged from a well in Xihuamen. He hurried to the emperor's bedroom just in time for Yan. The news spread like wildfire, and everyone knew that the well went straight to the Buddhist paradise. Therefore, civil and military officials invited superb masons to chisel a stone building to block the wellhead, for fear of offending the living Buddha in the West.

In fact, Dajiaomian is a Liao Dynasty cultural relic, engraved with Buddhist scriptures. Later, in the early years of the founding of the Qing Dynasty, the emperor of the Qing Dynasty believed in Buddhism. In order to preserve it solemnly, he moved it to Shenyang Road in front of the palace and set up a pavilion to worship it. Ten Faces are rare and precious cultural relics in China. After nearly a thousand years of history, it has become a national treasure of our country, so it is not surprising that all kinds of strange legends have been produced around it.
