Translation and Original Text of Baizhangshan Story

Original text:

Climb Baizhang Mountain for three miles, bend the ravine on the right, control the cliff on the left, and the cornerstone is steep, with more than ten steps. The victory of the mountain begins with the cover.

Go east and you will see a stream. Liang Shi straddles it. All vines are ancient trees, although there is no summer heat in the summer pavilion. The water is clear, and its sound splashes from the top. Liang Shi, along the winding two cliffs, and get the gate. There are three cabins that can't hold ten people. However, there is water before the bird's eye view and a stone pool behind it, and the wind comes between the two Gorges all day long. The cross pool in the door is Liang Shi again. Go north, climb the stone stairs and enter the temple several times. There are only a few old houses in buddhist nun, which are simple and barely pass. Only Xiting won. Water rushes out from the west valley along the stone pile, and the water from the south valley and the east valley is injected into the pool. Seen from the pool, it is what used to be called a small stream. According to its upper level, the pavilion is the most fun when there is a fierce battle between water and stone. Behind the wall, there is nothing to see. Lying alone on it at night, under the pillow, it will whisper all night. Sad for a long time is a lovely ear.

Go out of the mountain gate and walk ten steps to the east, and you will reach the stone platform. When you go down to the steep shore, you are in danger. Looking southeast in the sparse forest, I saw a waterfall gushing from the cave in front, with a drop of dozens of feet. Its foam is like a spray of scattered beads, and its eyes are bright and dazzling, so it is impossible to face it squarely. Taiwan Province is in the south of Shanxi, and Lushan Mountain is in front of it. One peak stands out, and hundreds of miles of peaks are also vivid. As the sun sets, the corner of the sun is shining, and the purple and green overlap countless. Looking down, white clouds are all over Sichuan, like waves. And those who come out from the distant and nearby mountains are flying and floating. Surge or not, it changed in an instant. The Taitung path was broken, and the villagers chiseled stones to make it a shrine facing the east, praying for floods and droughts. Those who are afraid of risks may not dare to spend. However, if the mountains are considerable, they will be poor.

I was accompanied by Liu Chongfu, Ping Fu, Lu and my cousin Xu. These two poems were written to record their victory, which I have described in detail. Among them, Shi Geng, Xiao Jian, Shanmen, Shitai, Xige and Waterfall are the most impressive. Because all poems know their position, they all go hand in hand. Tell her husband that he wants to go but can't.

Translation:

Climb the Sanlilai Road on Baizhang Mountain and look down to the right. This is a deep and dangerous canyon. The left side of the road leans against a steep cliff, and the road surface is a piled stone platform. It takes more than ten steps to get through this dangerous area. The scenery of Baizhang Mountain began.

Go east along Shixing and meet a stream. A stone bridge spans it. There are pale green vines and ancient trees on both sides, and even at noon in midsummer, there is not a trace of heat. The stream is crystal clear, flowing down from a height and splashing. Walking through the stone bridge, climbing up the path with cliffs on both sides, I met the gate of a temple. There are three small houses that even a dozen people can't hold, but they can overlook the stream in front. Behind the gate faces the stone pool, and the wind blows from the canyons on both sides all day. Inside the gate, there is another stone bridge across the stone pool. Go north after crossing the stone bridge, set foot on the stone ladder and go up a few steps to get a nun. There are only a few old houses for nuns, which are short and narrow, and there is nothing worth seeing. Only xiguomei. The stream flew out like an arrow from the west valley along the crack under the west pavilion and poured southward into the stone pool with the water from the east valley. Water flowed out of the stone pool again, forming the stream mentioned above. Xige is located in the upper reaches of it, where rapids and craggy rocks are the most worthy of appreciation. There is a stone wall behind, and there is nothing to see. Lying alone in the Xiting at night, you can hear the gurgling sound of running water under the pillow and sleeping mat all night. The longer you listen, the sadder it gets, but it's also very interesting.

Walking ten steps east from the entrance of the temple gate, I met a stone platform. The stone platform faces the steep cliff bank, which is deep and dark and extremely steep. Looking from the overgrown place to the southeast, I saw a waterfall spewing out of the cave in front and falling from tens of feet. Splashed water foam, like scattered pearls and sprayed fog, is dazzled by the sun and invisible to the eyes. The stone platform is in the gap in the south of Shanxi, facing the Lushan Mountain in front. There is a particularly beautiful mountain peak in front of us, and the peaks with different heights hundreds of miles away are clearly presented in front of us. As the sun approached the western hills, the afterglow of the sun crossed, and purple and emerald overlapped countless times. When I get up in the morning, I look down the hill. White clouds are everywhere in Ye Ping, falling like the waves of the sea. The peaks that emerge from the clouds far and near seem to float around, some spew out, some sink, and change in an instant. The path to the east of the stone platform was cut off, and the local people cut out some stone platforms that could only accommodate their feet, and built a shrine in the east, where people would go to pray in case of flood or drought. Some people who are afraid of danger are afraid to go there. The scenery that can be seen on the mountain is gone here.

I am with my father Liu Chong, my father, Lu and my cousin Xu. I have described all the scenic spots on the mountain in my poems, and I have described them in detail in this order. The most interesting places on the mountain are Shixian, Xiao Jian, Temple Gate, Stone Terrace, Xige and Waterfalls. Therefore, people wrote short poems to describe these places and presented them to people who came to visit together. Now I have written this travel note to tell those who want to go but can't.

Appreciation of works:

This travel book is different from ordinary travel books, and the author pays attention to introducing and describing key landscapes everywhere. For example, write "Deng Shi" directly at the beginning, so as to omit the lengthy narration about the mountaineering process. Another example is to write a stream, which only objectively describes "Gu Teng", "clear water" and the splash of the stream, and subjectively feels that "there is no summer in the summer pavilion". There is not much pen and ink, which shows that the environment here is quiet and pleasant When introducing the natural landscape, the author is also good at using the brushwork of restraining first and then promoting. That is to say, first describe this place as an ordinary landscape, and then find a side and scenic spot that can be enjoyed by tourists or that tourists may be interested in to introduce. For example, the mountain gate, one of the six scenic spots in the mountain, has only one hut that can not accommodate ten people, which is extremely impressive, and it is also interesting for the author to point out this place with the word "ran" in a turning tone. Because it "has a bird's-eye view of the water in front, a stone pool behind, and wind from between the two Gorges all day long", if it is in hot summer, the wind in the gorge will be very carefree, which will make readers yearn for it. For another example, when I wrote about Shan 'an Temple, I thought it was "just a few old houses", which was narrow and low-humidity, so naturally it was ignored. However, the author used the word "independence" to point out that the temple pavilion is a scenic spot, and combined with his own life experience, he described the sadness caused by lying on it at night listening to the sound of spring water. The most attractive thing for tourists in Baizhang Mountain is the stone platform and the surrounding scenery. From the stone platform facing the steep bank, you can see the waterfall spewing out from the cave in front and "throwing dozens of feet" in the "thin room in the forest"; You can also overlook the spectacular scenery of "Hundred Miles of Peaks". There are ever-changing clouds and sunsets in Ran Ran. It's too beautiful for you to leave. In order to highlight the beauty of the stone platform and its surrounding scenery, the author has used appropriate and vivid metaphors many times, such as waterfalls dripping like scattered beads, white clouds like sea waves, and mountains flying like floating in the sea of clouds, which left a deep impression on people. There is also a scene that describes the waterfall when the water drops are illuminated by sunlight. Although this is a direct narrative, its skills are impressive, because it can vividly convey the landscape.
