Both RAID 1 disks have been unplugged, and data may still be recovered.

You don't need to copy the file to an undamaged disk at all. The mirror volume can still read and write normally when a disk is taken out. Even if you remove the undamaged disk, it won't affect the data inside, because it supports hot plug, and you don't know what your needs are.
