How do bees send messages?

Bees send messages by releasing smells, shaking their wings to meet their companions and demonstrating to the enemy. But the information collected is mainly transmitted through different dance movements.

Before picking bees, a small number of reconnaissance bees go out to look for honey sources and then return to their nests. Use different forms of dance to convey information and express the quantity, quality, direction and distance of honey source and powder source.

(1) On the nest spleen, the round dance scout bees repeatedly crawl in circles, once to the left, once to the right, and repeat in another position about half a minute. It means that the honey source and the powder source are within 100 meters, and it does not mean the direction. Worker bees fly out and hover slightly, which is easy to be found (Figure 35).

(2) Tail-wagging dance to detect bees on the nest spleen, swinging the abdomen and dancing around the "8". It means both distance and direction. Distance: expressed by the speed of rotation, fast rotation means close distance, slow rotation means far distance. Every 15 second, the number of laps and the corresponding distance are as follows: the number of laps (times) 9 ~ 107 ~ 85 ~ 62 ~ 4 means the distance (m)100 ~ 200 200 ~ 600 700 ~1400. The angle formed by the straight line from the nest box (door) to the sun and the straight line from the nest box to the honey source is called the "sun angle". The direction of the sun is transformed into the gravity vertical line on the nest and spleen, that is, the sun is always above the gravity vertical line. The angle between the central axis of the dance circle and the vertical line of gravity (that is, the angle equivalent to the sun) indicates the corresponding direction of honey source based on the sun.

The swing dance of bees

If the central axis of the dance circle coincides with the vertical line of gravity, the bee head moves upward, indicating that the honey source is in the straight line direction along the sun. The downward movement of the bee's head indicates that the honey source is facing away from the sun in a straight line.

The anti-clockwise direction of the central axis of the dance circle forms a certain angle with the gravity vertical line, indicating that the honey source is at the corresponding angle on the left side of the sun. The clockwise direction of the central axis of the dance circle forms a certain angle with the gravity vertical line, which means that the honey source is at the corresponding angle on the right side of the sun (the angle between the central axis and the gravity vertical line refers to the angle formed by the bees along the central axis of the dance circle after exceeding the gravity line).

Quantity and quality: The more vigorously the reconnaissance bees dance, the more honey sources the better. But the wild dance of bees means the possibility of moving and fleeing, so take precautions. While the bees are dancing, they also share honey samples with their peers for tasting, so as to easily find the honey source.
