Why is Zhu Yuanzhang called Zhu Chongba?
Zhu Yuanzhang was born in a poor peasant family in the Yuan Dynasty, ranking eighth in the family, hence the name "Zhu Chongba". In the Yuan Dynasty, ordinary people were usually not allowed to have names if they were uneducated or not officials. They could only be named after their parents' age or date of birth. Zhu Yuanzhang's family is in line with this situation. His father Zhu and his grandfather Zhu Chu have four sons, named Chongyi, Chonger, Chongsan, Chongwu, Chongsi, Chongqi respectively. Zhu Yuanzhang himself ranked eighth, hence the name "Chongba". Zhu Yuanzhang (1328,10,21-1398, June 24th), a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty, was named Guo Rui, formerly known as Zhu Chongba and Zhu Xingzong. Li Zhong was born in Zhou Hao (now Fengyang, Anhui). [288] The founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty (reigned from 1368 to 1398) was named Hongwu.
