Sichuan established the first neural control center in western China to fully serve patients with Parkinson's disease

Xinhuanet Chengdu, April 14 (Reporter Liu Hai, Huayang) The Neurocontrol Center of West China Hospital was established on April 13. It is the first comprehensive diagnosis and treatment service institution and technical support center for Parkinson's patients in western China.

Parkinson's disease is a chronic progressive nervous system disease that seriously harms human health. At present, there are nearly 3 million Parkinson's patients in China, accounting for half of the total number of Parkinson's patients in the world. Environmental pollution, alcoholism, poor long-term rest and aging are the main inducing factors of this disease.

According to Wang Wei, a professor at the Neurocontrol Center of West China Hospital, traditional surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease will destroy brain tissue and easily lead to complications. In 200 1 year, West China Hospital used the world-advanced deep brain electrosurgical technique to treat Parkinson's disease and dyskinesia, with hundreds of successful cases and nearly 1,000 cases of operation and patient management completed every year, which reduced complications and improved the quality of work and life of patients.

According to reports, deep brain resection is to open a small hole in the patient's head, insert an electrode with a thickness of 1.2 mm into the brain, and connect the lead with the main body with battery and chip through subcutaneous tissue. After the equipment commonly known as "brain pacemaker" is started, it will effectively improve patients' symptoms such as tremor, rigidity and bradykinesia, and reduce or stop taking medicine.

It is understood that the center not only provides advanced deep brain electrotherapy technology for patients with Parkinson's disease, but also provides services such as drug adjustment, program control and equipment debugging.
