During the Warring States Period, Fu Cha, the king of Wu, built a smelting city in Chaotian Palace, Nanjing, which was rich in copper and tin mines at that time, specializing in smelting copper and iron and casting weapons, forming the embryonic form of Nanjing City.
Step 2 cross the city
In 472 BC, Gou Jian, King of Yue, ordered Fan Li to build a city outside the Zhonghua Gate in Nanjing today, which was called "Yuecheng" in history.
3. Jinling
In 333 BC, Chu Weiwang defeated Yue State and built a city in Shishishan (now Liang Qing), which is called Jinling City. At that time, Zhongshan was called Jinling Mountain. Another legend is that Chu Weiwang saw that there was a royal spirit in Nanjing, so he buried gold here to save the royal spirit.
4. Qinhuai
It is said that when Qin Shihuang visited Nanjing in the east, a warlock played that Jinling had the spirit of the son of heaven. The first emperor was very unhappy. In order to vent the anger of the king of Jin in Jinling, Fangshan Mountain was dug in the eastern suburb of Nanjing to draw Huai water into the city. As a symbol of Qin Shihuang's "conquest", this river was renamed Qin, that is, Qinhuai River.
5. Moling
When Qin Shihuang cut the Huaihe River to vent the anger of King Nanjing, he also stipulated that Jinling must be called Lexus from now on. "Mo" means animal feed or feeding animals, which means that this place can only be used as a place to feed animals in the future, so as to suppress the royal spirit of Nanjing. In the Han Dynasty, it was also called Moling.
6. Jianye
In the 16th year of Jian 'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 2 1 1), after Battle of Red Cliffs, Sun Quan listened to Zhuge Liang's suggestion, moved the capital from Jingkou to Moling, and renamed Moling as Jianye, meaning "the great cause of establishing the emperor" (another meaning is "meritorious service").
