This banquet is held for Juliet, who is 13 years old. Juliet is as beautiful as a fairy, and Romeo is deeply attracted by her. Juliet also fell in love with Romeo at first sight, and they confessed to each other. After they know each other's identity, they are very sad, because the feud between the two families doomed Romeo and Juliet's love will not be smooth sailing.
Juliet's cousin knew that Romeo and Juliet were in love and offered to fight Romeo, but Romeo refused. However, his friend was dissatisfied and was killed in a duel with his cousin. Romeo was furious, drew his sword to avenge his friend and stabbed his cousin Juliet to death. Romeo was exiled after the truth came out. Juliet was very sad. The night before she was exiled, he sneaked into Juliet's room and got married in front of the priest.
After Romeo left, someone came to propose, and Juliet went to the priest to find a way. The priest gave her a fake death medicine. After taking the medicine, she was going to play dead, and then someone sent a letter to tell Romeo. Unexpectedly, before the messenger arrived, Romeo got the news of Juliet's death and committed suicide by taking poison. Juliet couldn't stand the fact that she woke up and committed suicide by taking poison.
But fortunately, after this incident, the feud between the two families began to resolve.
Okay, no? Swear. Although I take pleasure in you,
I'm not happy? Tonight's contract.
Is it? Reckless, too reckless, too sudden,
Too much alike? Lightning, no longer
Is it okay to be alone? Say, "It's getting brighter."
(Act II, Scene II, Page 5)
Okay, don't swear. Although I like you, I don't want to marry you for life tonight. Too rash, too reckless, too sudden, like lightning. I'm afraid the word "lightning" disappeared before I could say it.
My generosity is as boundless as the sea,
My love is as deep. The more I give you,
The more I have, because both are infinite.
(Act II, Scene II, page 6)
My generosity is as vast as the sea, and my love is as deep as the sea. The more love I give, the more I get, because there is no end to giving and returning.
Juliet wants more distant love. She longs for love as gorgeous as summer flowers and as beautiful as autumn leaves. In front of her, she used three toos, too rash, too careless and too sudden, to show that she felt it was too early, which fully reflected her anxious thoughts and worries. She is afraid that the love between them will be as fast as lightning. She is afraid that the feud between generations will affect their love. Murphy's law tells us that the more afraid things are, the easier it is to happen. Maybe Juliet's worry here paved the way for the later ending. Everything is predestined.
But soon, Juliet said that her love was as deep as the ocean and as vast as the ocean. The ocean here is in sharp contrast to the lightning ahead. On the one hand, I love my passion, on the other hand, I am anxious and afraid, so I have this emotional inner feeling.
Metaphor is widely used in Shakespeare's works. Metaphor is also a common rhetorical method, and the commonly used comparative words are like. Here are two examples.
.. as if she hung on the cheek at night.
Like a jewel in the ear of an Ethiopian ... "
(Act I, Scene V)
She seems to hang on the cheek of the night, like a jewel earring worn by a black man;
If I profane with my most disproportionate hand
This sacred place is gentle:
(Act I, Scene V)
If my hands offend your temple,
The first one was when Romeo met Juliet for the first time, when the author compared Juliet to a gem; In the second sentence, she compared her hand to a sacred temple. These metaphors vividly depict the beauty of Juliet.
We didn't know love when we were young.
When I was in college, my teacher told us about the play, and the details were gone, but Juliet was only 13 years old, but she was impressed. I just thought it was too early. Now watching this drama, I feel completely different. 13-year-old Juliet and 17-year-old Romeo are in love, and their love is understandable. But when we were young, we didn't understand love. This must be true. Besides love, they are more passion and hormones. They have never experienced the storms in life, thinking that love is just a combination of flowers and months, beautiful women and talented people. They haven't made themselves plump enough to withstand the ups and downs of life, and their children love them deeply. They also don't have enough courage to abandon their family interests and fly away. After all, they are all too young, so the subsequent love tragedy naturally happened.
This reminds me of a passage: once we all thought we could die for love. In fact, love can't kill people. It only sticks a needle in the most painful place, and then we want to cry. We toss and turn, and after a long illness, we become doctors. In Shakespeare's plays, the protagonist lacks this wandering and yearning, and lacks this plot tortured by love. But it is also through countless joys and sorrows that we will be more rational and cherish it. Therefore, this kind of love from acquaintance to death, but a few days, tragedy will certainly come as scheduled.
Life is always bound.
Some people think that Juliet and Romeo are extremely brave and lay down their lives for love, which is stronger than gold. I think it is understandable that they really love each other, but are they really that brave? Does Shakespeare really want to portray them as warriors? I don't think so.
After Romeo was exiled, why didn't they just fly away? Why don't they get married directly, but they have to be married by a priest? Maybe without so many things, there wouldn't be a final tragic scene? We can first think about whether we are often influenced by parents' opinions when making important decisions. Will it be influenced by powerful forces? Maybe in today's society, people's minds are more open, so it will be much better. But there is no doubt that people are social people, so we will always pay attention to the eyes of others, the influence of friends and the bond between parents. Life will eventually be bound.
