With the development of expressway industry, supporting service facilities have emerged in expressway service areas, which is of great significance to the rapid development of expressways and the increase of mileage planning. The effective operation and high-quality service of service area can better realize the social service value of expressway, increase the economic benefits of expressway investment companies, provide employment opportunities and solve the diversion of surplus personnel.
In addition, we can also take advantage of the opportunity of developing service areas to obtain scarce land resources at a lower land cost. Therefore, by combing the relevant literature at home and abroad, combined with the current situation and development trend of expressway planning and construction in China, this paper analyzes the various functions of service areas, and divides expressway services into three types according to the planning scale and functional completeness, namely, first-class service areas, second-class service areas and third-class service areas, each with its own characteristics.
