Development process of Arcgis software

ARCGIS software is developed from ARC/INFO, and its development history is actually the development history of ESRI.

ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) was founded in 1969 and its headquarters is in Redlands, California. Initially, the company provided consulting services for enterprises to create and analyze geographic information. In the 1980s, ESRI devoted itself to developing and applying a set of core development tools, which can run in a computer environment and be used to create a geographic information system, which is now known as the geographic information system (GIS) technology.

198 1 year, ESRI released the first set of commercial GIS software-ARC/INFO software. It can display geographical elements such as points, lines and planes on the computer, and describe the attribute data of these geographical elements through database management tools. ARC/INFO is recognized as the first modern commercial geographic information system.

From 65438 to 0986, the appearance of PC ARC/INFO was another milestone in the history of ESRI software development, which was designed for GIS station based on PC. The appearance of PC ARC/INFO indicates that ESRI has successfully transformed into a GIS software development company.

1992, ESRI launched ArcView software, which enables people to obtain a set of simple and easy-to-use desktop drawing tools with less investment. In the first six months, ArcView sold 10000 units worldwide. In the same year, ESRI also released ArcData, which is used to publish and distribute commercial, ready-to-use and high-quality data sets, so that users can build and upgrade their GIS applications more quickly. Today, this program has been improved into a geographic network system. ArcCAD was also launched in 1992, and its appearance enabled users to use GIS tools in CAD environment.

1995, in order to meet the demand of B to B market, ESRI introduced SDE, which enabled spatial data and tabular data to be stored in commercial relational database management system (DBMS) at the same time. At the same time, ESRI has also launched BusinessMAP and related products to meet the needs of the B to C market.

In the mid-1990s, ESRI's product line continued to grow, and ArcInfo products based on Windows NT were launched, along with MapObjects (Maps and GIS Components Based on Software Development), Data Automation Kit (DAK) and Atlas GIS. In this way, ESRI's product line can provide users with a variety of choices of geographic information systems and mapping needs. ERSI is also in a leading position in the world geographic information system market.

1997, ESRI plans to reorganize existing GIS products with COM component technology. After that, it invested hundreds of people/year. Finally, in February of 1999, ArcInfo 8 was released, and ArcIMS was also launched. This is the first GIS software that can combine local data with data on the Internet using a simple browser interface.

In April of 20001year, ESRI began to launch ArcGIS 8. 1, which is a set of GIS software family products based on industrial standards, providing a powerful, simple and complete GIS solution. ArcGIS is an extensible GIS system, which provides the ability to create, manage, synthesize and analyze geographic data. ArcGIS can also publish geographic data for independent users and users based on global distributed networks.

In April 2004, ESRI launched a new generation of nine versions of ArcGIS software, which provided a complete set of software products for building a perfect GIS system. Version 9 contains two major new products: ArcGIS Engine, which embeds GIS functions into desktop and field applications; And ArcGIS Server, which is a central management framework for enterprise GIS applications.

Today, ESRI's GIS products still maintain a balanced and rapid growth. With the innovation of computer technology, complex GIS operations can be completed in the field personal digital assistant (PDA), desktop and even the whole enterprise level. With the rapid emergence of faster and cheaper computers, network operation technology, electronic data publishing and tools that are easier to learn and use, individual business users can also introduce GIS technology into their work as a decision-making tool. With the appearance of interactive map operation on the Internet, any computer user can benefit from GIS technology.
