Is there often an earthquake in Kuqa County?
Often. Aksu area in Kuqa county is located in the southern Tianshan seismic belt in Xinjiang, with frequent earthquakes. Xinjiang in China belongs to the fault block in western Chinese mainland. The northward convergence and uneven collision and compression of India-Pakistan subcontinent block and Chinese mainland have formed the inland subduction zones of Tarim block in China and the northern and southern margins of junggar block, mainly including arc compression orogeny, Tianshan compression uplift orogenic belt and Altai compression uplift orogenic belt on the northern margin of Pamirs. Such a special tectonic environment and strong tectonic movement have formed three main seismic zones in Xinjiang, China, namely, West Kunlun, Tianshan and Altai, which makes the seismic activity in Xinjiang have the characteristics of high intensity and high frequency, and it is the main inland seismic activity area in China.
