National highway refers to the main trunk highways with national political and economic significance, including important international highways, national defense highways, highways connecting the capital with the capitals of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, and highways connecting major economic centers, port hubs, commodity production bases and strategic locations. Inter-provincial highways in national highways are built, maintained and managed by specialized agencies approved by the Ministry of Communications.
National highways in China are numbered by numbers, which can be divided into four ways. One way is radial, and the sorting of these expressway begins with the word "1". The second category is the north-south direction, starting with the word "2"; The third category is east-west, starting with "3", and the fourth category is "five vertical and seven horizontal" trunk lines, starting with "0".
Composition structure
national road
In China, it consists of the following roads:
(1) Trunk roads leading from the capital to the political and economic centers of provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions and cities with a population of over 300,000;
② Trunk roads leading to major ports, railway hubs and important industrial and agricultural production bases;
(3) Trunk roads leading from large and medium-sized cities to important foreign ports, open cities, historical cities and important scenic spots;
(4) National defense trunk lines of great significance. These highway lines form the framework of the national highway network.
Basic classification
summary
The abbreviation of national highway and national trunk highway is divided into three categories according to its geographical trend. The national highway 1, 2 and 3 start, the capital radiation 1 starts (except the national highway 1 12), the north-south line 2 starts, and the east-west line 3 starts. In order to distinguish these three types of national highways, each expressway trunk line is often numbered with three digits.
National highways are numbered with three digits, and the first digit is the classification number of the layout. The second and third digits in the three digits indicate the arrangement order of national highways, and the "××" of "1×××" is the ordinal number of a class of national highways arranged clockwise from north to south. The first digit in the three digits indicates the national highway category:1××××× stands for radial national highway with Beijing as the center, 2××××× stands for north-south national highway, and 3××××× stands for east-west national highway.

development status
China divides highways into five grades: expressway, first-class highways, second-class highways, third-class highways and fourth-class highways. Apart from the influence of economic development, most of the differences in road conditions between the east and the west are determined by the high terrain in the west, low terrain in the east, many plains in the east and many mountains in the west of China.
Old lines starting with "1, 2,3"
Most of the national highways in eastern China are first-class highways and second-class highways.
Most of the national highways in central and western China are secondary highways and highways below secondary level.
While expressway, China undertakes a lot of traffic flow, the existing three-digit national highway has not been abandoned and still occupies an important position in local traffic.
New Route of 79 18 Network
Major projects: China expressway Network.
1992, the state announced the national trunk line planning with five verticals and seven horizontals. With the rapid development of China's economy, the Ministry of Communications announced the new "National expressway Network Planning" in 20051October 65438+, namely the 79 18 network.
"Five Vertical and Seven Horizontal" New National Trunk Line
Most of the national and provincial trunk lines with five vertical lines and seven horizontal lines are newly built, and the road conditions are relatively good.
According to the official report of the "five vertical and seven horizontal" national trunk line press conference held by the Ministry of Communications of People's Republic of China (PRC) on June 5438+February 08, 2007, among the 12 trunk lines, expressway accounts for about 76% of the total mileage, the first-class highway accounts for about 4.5% of the total mileage, and the second-class highway accounts for 65438+.
20 13 -2030 planning
In the National Highway Network Planning (20 13-2030) published by the Ministry of Transport on June 20th, 2013, the number of ordinary national highways will be expanded to 1 19 (including existing national highways) except for the 8 1 connecting line. The total mileage of the planned national highway has increased from 198 1 to 265,000 kilometers, and the expansion focuses on the western region and underdeveloped areas.
Identification method
National Highway and expressway are not the same concept.
National Highway Law of the People's Republic of China: According to its position in the road network, highways are divided into national highways, provincial highways, county highways and township highways, and according to its technical level, they are divided into expressway, first-class highways, second-class highways, third-class highways and fourth-class highways.
Expressway can be a national road, a provincial road, a county road or even a township road. National highways can also be expressway, first-class highways, second-class highways, third-class highways and even fourth-class highways.
National highways generally need to meet the highway standards above Grade II. In real life, expressway is generally a highway above the provincial highway.
The above is the relevant information about the national highway provided by the Construction Network.
