? Little Zhuge? Bai Chongxi

Bai Chongxi (1893- 1966) from Lingui County, Guangxi, whose Arabic name is Umer, has the same meaning as "celebrating happiness and good health". He is the father of the famous writer Bai Xianyong. The first-class general and strategist of the National Revolutionary Army of the Republic of China was called "Little Zhuge". Belongs to the Kuomintang "Guangxi", ranking second only to Li Zongren and Huang.

Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi are called "Li Bai". The two men are the center of the Guangxi branch, the most powerful local military force of the Kuomintang, and have been cooperating with each other for many years. At first, they joined Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary camp in Guangzhou and drove away the old warlords in Guangxi together. Bai Chongxi's excellent strategy in the battle to unify Guangxi earned him the nickname "Little Zhuge". During the Northern Expedition, he led Guangxi troops to attack Shanhaiguan. Bai Chongxi was called "the first person to complete the Northern Expedition" when he went from Zhennanguan to Shanhaiguan. After the victory of the Northern Expedition, he fought many wars with Chiang Kai-shek and other local forces. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in eight years, the two men mobilized Guangxi troops to fight against the Japanese army, and cooperated in directing many wars, which won many successes.

Bai Chongxi is a warrior, resourceful and has an amazing memory. He is good at capturing battlefield information. Among the Kuomintang generals, he is known as "Little Zhuge", "Modern Zhuge", "White Fox", "Contemporary Sean" and "Modern First Handsome Soldier". His outstanding military talents are valued by famous scholars in China, and even the Japanese call him "God of War". However, Bai Chongxi thinks too highly of himself, is smart, is short-sighted politically, and can't know people. After the Northern Expedition, Li Mingrui, Yu Zuoyu and other old generals were suppressed, and their favorite upstarts, Hu Zongduo and Tao Jun, were promoted. As a result, Chiang Kai-shek was torn apart, and the Fourth Army was destroyed without fighting. The battles of the two battles in Shanghai, the Sixth Division, Guinan and Guiliu, which were personally commanded by the Anti-Japanese War, were unbeaten. After three years of civil war, he failed to gain the upper hand in front of Liu Bocheng and Lin Biao, which proved that he was only suitable for being a staff officer.

Bai Chongxi was lucky enough to meet Li Zongren, a magnanimous master. The two of them, together with Huang's super political strategy, achieved the glory of the new Guangxi department from Zhennanguan to Shanhaiguan. Their division also contributed to the decline of the new Guangxi system. River regulation failed, and the army lost. Bai Chongxi knew that he was ill-fated when he went to Taiwan Province Province, but he went to Taiwan Province to take the blame with a one-track political attitude and died of depression. In his daily contacts with people, he opposed bureaucracy, beat and scolded foot soldiers, advocated hard work, banned gambling and opposed bad hobbies. He is relatively self-disciplined in the Kuomintang ruling class.
