Actually, as upstairs said, it's probably not a good thing to take more cases. My mode of guiding students is not to let them take over cases. Anyone who has been in contact with psychological counseling and treatment for less than three years is not suitable to increase the amount of counseling. A large amount will not bring benefits, but will bring great pressure to consultants. Because they will find that they seem to know too little, can do too little, and even have a fear of counseling. Moreover, the existence of tutors is often the core of the problem of novice selection, and what materials need to be tested. From this perspective, consultants need to have a very large amount of knowledge. Literature, history, philosophy and medicine, these are the foundations. Some people don't understand why they should study literature, because consultants need to have efficient information sorting, analysis and memory skills, especially through writing and case analysis to improve their information mastery. This is very, very important. What I said above about mastering knowledge is because we will face a large number of consultants, and people's social experiences are different. Only by mastering enough knowledge can we talk with consultants better and change flexibly. Some people advocate the so-called consulting style and school, but after a long time, you will find that the so-called consulting style and school are meaningless. Because people are alive and knowledge is dead, if you apply dead knowledge to living people, you will gradually lose sight of what counseling is all about. Therefore, the process of improving psychological counseling is not to improve counseling skills, but to improve their ability to understand, analyze and process information, and to improve their ability to use comprehensive knowledge to guide, help and solve counselors' problems, while other attitudes and mentality are basic professional requirements.
Therefore, don't think that the more consulting skills you know, the more effective or smooth your consultation will be. In fact, this is not the case. Skills are equivalent to tools. Having tools doesn't mean you will become a master. Quite a few consultations don't need too many skills, but you need to know how to go deep into each other's world, get to know and understand each other, gain insight into the evolution of the problem, the characteristics of the influence of the problem, the causes of the problem and so on. From this point of view, the ability to analyze information is particularly important. In fact, it's relatively easy for people who started to study psychoanalysis, because they have been practicing case analysis, including my own training, which is what I requested. Sensitive and tax-sensitive insight and analysis ability can help consultants master the core things, and it is easier to maintain the best interaction with consultants during the consultation process. However, the mastery of information is still the core. As I always say, the counselor said, "Listen clearly, listen clearly". Because consultation is a short-term and high-intensity verbal communication process (in most cases), the amount of information that consultants have to undertake is obviously higher than that of ordinary conversation. Many consultants can't consult well because they are disturbed by all kinds of information and lack the mastery and understanding of core information. Excessive pursuit of skills is also a reason for paying too much attention to the information that meets the requirements of skill application and ignoring the whole conversation.
Therefore, Mo always thought that he would be a master with many weapons. You should start from mastering the basics and expand to study in related fields. If you are serious, it will take about two years. In this process, you will continue to analyze small cases and try to make plans. Small case analysis, I also call it incomplete information analysis exercise. These are all practical applications that make you proficient in all knowledge. And when you start to get more and more contact with complete consultation, you will find that style and skills are no longer important. After all, you are the style, and you are the skill. Including what training courses you attend, it's all the same. In fact, it is useless at best, it can only prove how inadequate you are, not how well you can learn. The research and practice of consultation is a long process. If you want to save money, you can download materials and study by yourself, and do more small cases by yourself. If you don't have too many ideas, you can look at some consulting cases of masters, which will also be useful. Following the teacher is of course useful, but the cost is not low. However, as long as you have perseverance, confidence and devotion, you will definitely become an excellent consultant.
