The story of native trees: elm, elm and gall tree

? I took the time to take my daughter to climb Huashan Mountain, and saw the elms covered with elm money on the mountain, but the leaves were smaller than those on the flat ground, and the elms were more expensive. In the plain area below the mountain, Yuqian has already dried up and fallen, and the mountain is always half a beat slower than the mountain. This elm tree, elm money, has entered the heart, and the elm sentiment hidden in the bottom of my heart has spread from Huashan.

? In my childhood memory, there are several trees in the village: locust tree, elm tree, pear tree and apricot tree. At present, pear trees and apricot trees are planted in a large area as fruit trees, while Sophora japonica (Robinia pseudoacacia with long Sophora japonica) and Ulmus pumila, which are native trees in Guanzhong, have disappeared from the front and back of every household, and have been replaced by "precious" ornamental trees such as Ligustrum lucidum, Osmanthus fragrans and Magnolia grandiflora. You can still find locust trees in some gullies, but elm trees are almost impossible to find. In order to show the children what elm bumps and elm money look like, I have been groping in the demolition village and occasionally found one or two, either because it is too big to dig, or because I am worried that the season is not suitable, and it is not difficult to survive after digging back and planting, so I have never been able to do so.

When I came back from Huashan, I passed the Shahe Bridge in the garden and saw several tall elms growing on the earth cliff beside the bridge. Suddenly, I had an epiphany: if there are elms, there will be money, and if there is money under the cliff, it is possible to grow small elm seedlings!

? So he stopped to dismount, stepped on dead branches and leaves and all kinds of rubbish from the potholed earth cliff and came to the middle of the earth cliff. Sure enough, he saw eight two-fingered elm seedlings and was overjoyed. He ran back to the garden, got shovels and scissors, then got some friends to help him, dug them down, pulled them back and planted them in the garden.

? In fact, there is another reason why I made up my mind to plant elms in the garden. When I participated in the nature experience training, I saw the small pockets on the leaves for the first time in Nanjing Zhongshan Botanical Garden. The teacher said it was a gall phenomenon. This phenomenon, that is, insects are stimulated by feeding or laying eggs, which makes plant tissues proliferate and deform. For example, the saliva of some insects may abnormally increase the local growth hormone in plants, thus increasing the number of cells and accelerating their growth, thus producing galls. This is also a biological phenomenon, which was quite interesting at that time.

? Last spring, I went to a village in Gaoling District and saw bright red spots on the leaves of elms on the roadside, thinking that I had discovered new species. After careful reading, it was found that it was a "gall phenomenon", and it was known that elm leaves were easily stimulated by bacteria and occupied by insects. The main insects are aphids, scale insects, weevils, sawflies and gall midges. However, this bile is not all harmful. It is said that gallnut abundant in China is caused by a kind of aphid (gallnut aphid), which contains tannic acid and can be used in dyes, tanning, chemical industry, traditional Chinese medicine and so on. This is also a great contribution of gall.

? It happened that the elm leaves dug back this time were also covered with small pockets. In the future, adults and children who come to Qizhi Agricultural Park will not only have the opportunity to see the local elm tree and its fruit-Yu Qian, but also witness the legendary gallnut. Kill two birds with one stone, wouldn't it be fun?

? When it comes to elm, it will naturally be associated with elm furniture and the word elm pimple. In the traditional farming society, rosewood, rosewood and nanmu furniture are naturally out of touch with ordinary people, while elm has become one of the furniture materials for ordinary people because of its three-dimensional beautiful patterns and wood sources from almost every household. In modern society, all kinds of plate furniture synthesized by chemical methods have gradually replaced the artificial tenon-mortise structure, and there is no concept of the particularly solid scar encountered in the process of knocking furniture, that is, elm bumps.

? As for the famine years, elm money has become a luxury, and elm bark has become a famine relief food, which is even more incredible.

Homesickness is not an unprovoked moaning, but comes from one's own or one's ancestors' nostalgia and gratitude for the places, utensils, houses and people who have lived with * * * *, especially the native trees that have been rooted in their native land and accompanied generation after generation. Objects will be damaged, houses will be weathered, and only trees will flourish and have deep roots.

? When I was concentrating on observing the elms and elms on Huashan Mountain, many tourists asked me curiously what I was looking at. I replied that I was looking at elms and elms. At least half of the people were surprised and asked, "Are these the legendary elms and elms?"

? Yes, this is the elm tree, this is Yu Qian, and this is the native tree that has accompanied us for generations in Guanzhong, Shaanxi.

? I don't think elm, elm pimple and elm money should just stay in legend.
