Historical background of building Wuxiang Square in Nanning

Nanning has been known as the elephant city since ancient times, the most famous of which is the legend of Wuxiangling. The design of the Five Elephants Sculpture in the Square was inspired by the legend of Wuxiangling. According to legend, during the Warring States Period, Qin Shihuang brought five precious elephants from Lingnan to control floods in the south. In order to stop mountain torrents and keep peace forever, five elephants stopped when they approached Nanning. Qin Shihuang patted the elephant's ass with his hand, but it was empty. He couldn't help flying into a rage. When he woke up, he realized that it was a dream. Qin Shihuang, who woke up from his dream, sent someone to the south with a grain of salt to find out. As expected, there are five mountains in the south that look like elephants. Since then, floods in Nanning have been reduced, and Wuxiangling has become an auspicious image in people's minds to protect Nanning.
