Yumenguan was first set up by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty when he opened the road to the Western Regions and set up four counties in Hexi, so it was named after the jade introduced from the Western Regions. In the Han Dynasty, it was the gateway to the western regions, so it was located in Xiaofangcheng, northwest of Dunhuang, Gansu. When the Great Wall between Jiuquan and Yumen was built in Ding Yuan or Yuanfeng (65438 BC+065438 BC+65438 BC+005 BC), Yumen Pass should have been established.
According to the Records of Geography of Hanshu, Yumenguan Pass and another important pass, Yangguan Pass, are both located in Longle County, Dunhuang County, where Dewey ruled and where troops were stationed.
