Psychological tip [20]: What will the counselor do when they meet for the first time?

Q: Su Xin, what will the consultant do next after the evaluation in the consultation?

Xiao Yu, an engineer, was depressed for the first three months because of his heavy work pressure, and his feelings were not smooth. He doesn't want to go to work and is not interested in anything. He has insomnia and forgetfulness. He was on tenterhooks all day and went to the hospital for treatment. The doctor diagnosed moderate depression and mild anxiety, and came to consult.

@ Su Xin Life Design: After the review meeting, the first meeting of behavioral cognitive therapy began.

The first meeting of cognitive behavioral therapy consultants usually achieves the following goals:

First, establish a dependent relationship with visitors, normalize their difficulties and give them hope.

Secondly, we can help visitors to socialize their treatment by educating them about their cognitive model and treatment process of psychological disorders.

Third, collect additional information to help consultants conceptualize visitors.

Fourth, establish a target list.

Fifth, solve the important problems of visitors.

In order to achieve this goal, the first meeting generally has the following structure:

First of all, the counselor will greet the visitors first and set the agenda, which can alleviate the anxiety of the visitors.

Secondly, we will check the mood of tourists to understand their emotional state in the last week.

Third, get the latest information about visitors.

Counselors usually work with visitors to determine which problems are urgent and which are not, and update the latest information of visitors.

Fourth, discuss the evaluation.

The counselor will discuss the contents of his evaluation with the visitors and give corresponding explanations.

Fifth, confirm and set goals.

In the formal first meeting, the counselor and the visitor will focus on the specific questions and finally set a list of goals for the next consultation.

Sixth, educate visitors to understand the cognitive model.

When meeting for the first time, it is best for the consultant to help the visitors realize how their thoughts affect their reactions through their own cases, that is, to share their cases with the visitors conceptually.

Seventh, discuss the problem.

If there is still time for the first meeting, the counselor can discuss a specific concern with the visitors. In this process, the visitors are trained to look at the problem in different ways and increase their hopes.

Eighth, summarize the assignments.

At the end of the meeting, summarize the meeting and discuss homework with visitors.

Ninth, invite visitors to give feedback.

Finally, allowing visitors to feedback their feelings and ideas in consultation can also give visitors an opportunity to express misunderstanding.

Therefore, in a meeting, in fact, consultation needs to confirm many things with visitors. Mature counselors will make visitors feel that there are actually these nine stages in consultation, but they have all been completed.

To reach these nine stages, continuous training is needed. This is also the value of consulting. The purpose of this is to let visitors explore their own problems in a safe and stable environment, which is often impossible for visitors themselves.
