Trapped in the fire, fleeing or waiting for rescue? Brother lighter tells you the necessary concept of survival

After a major fire broke out in KVT, the cash box of Linsen North Road in Taipei, people paid attention to the survival of the fire. How to save yourself at the scene of a smoke-filled fire? "30 Lessons of Firefighter's Survival" lists in detail all kinds of situations that may be encountered at the fire scene. Author Cai, director of Kaohsiung Fire Bureau, teaches you how to keep calm in a crisis. In case of fire, don't rush out by instinct. If you open the door and find there is thick smoke inside, you'd better close the door at once, put yourself in a relatively clean air box and dial "1 19".

Cai said that most people rarely encounter fire scenes in their lives, so the impression of fire may stay in the scenes in movies. When the fire is big, they can run out immediately, but the actual fire scene is almost opaque, accompanied by Baidu's high temperature and a lot of deadly substances. As long as you take a bite, you will suffocate and faint, leading to death.

Cai stressed that if you are in a closed space and open the door and see smoke, you must never go out. Close the door immediately to prevent smoke from spreading into the box or room. Call "1 19" with your mobile phone immediately and tell the fire hotline where you are in the fire. When on-site firefighters judge that it is safe to save people, they will bring masks or related life-saving appliances to the waiting place for rescue.

As mentioned in the book "30 lessons for survival of lighter", people will intuitively come from the original road and instinctively go out from the original road, but when disaster comes, this intuitive way of escape is likely to make them despair. Because sometimes at the moment of disaster, the entrance is not necessarily the best way to escape, and many buildings may have more than one entrance and exit. If conditions permit, you can find the best escape route to save your life.

Cai said that he also sang in KTV with friends, but every time he would take a few minutes to look at the escape map in the balcony door. There will be the location of the balcony and the nearest escape route. After following the instructions, he will try to find the escape door to confirm whether the operator locked the door illegally or the passage was full of debris. If it is confirmed, it will be even more reassuring.

The cash box fire on Linsen North Road caused a very big security loophole, and the on-site fire alarm notification system was suspected to be closed, which also made most consumers not know that they were in the fire. When they opened the door, they found that the corridor was full of smoke, which was no longer suitable for escape. Cai specifically mentioned that if the on-site fire-fighting equipment works normally according to the regulations and abnormal smoke appears in a certain place, all alarms will sound, giving people enough time to escape.

If time and space are reversed, the KTV fire protection system of the till will always be on. Cai pointed out that when the smoke detector finds something abnormal, all the alarms connected to the system will sound, and the spray gas will also act, so that people can escape from the scene under the condition of air safety. But when you escape, you must remember that if you push open the emergency door and find that the escape stairs are already full of black smoke, you should also close the door for rescue.

Cai explained, for example, that just like camping barbecue, although heat may be felt under the barbecue grill, it may not catch fire, but above the barbecue grill, all the smoke, flame and high temperature will flee upward. The same is true of the fire scene. Although the fire is not easy to spread to the opposite side of the reinforced concrete building, the smoke and high temperature will continue to climb, and the speed is very fast, which greatly reduces the chances of survival once encountered.

Cai reminded that because smoke and heat have the characteristics of rising upwards, when you hear a fire alarm, you should find the safety door as soon as possible. If it is confirmed that there is no smoke in the escape stairs, you can immediately escape downwards; If the escape ladder is full of smoke, it is likely that there is a fire downstairs, or that someone did not close the safety door in panic when they escaped, so that the smoke has been spreading upwards. If they want to escape at this time, they may choke on the ground before they arrive.

If you want to escape in the building, you must run down and never run up. Even if the fire occurs on a floor lower than oneself, and the buildings are mostly reinforced concrete, it is not easy for the fire to spread upstairs through cement. However, as long as there are vents, black smoke will run around and move very fast. As long as it is almost impossible to escape from the smoke, people are likely to suffocate at the scene.

Cai once again stressed that the most dangerous thing in the fire is actually smoke. When the flame burns, the smoke will rise first. When the ceiling can't hold it, the smoke will start to move down the wall and finally spread to the floor. When you see the smoke in the fire near the ground, it means that the smoke concentration in the space is very high. You shouldn't cover your nose and mouth with a wet towel and risk moving outward. Wet towels are not gas masks, and there is no way to stop harmful substances.

Cai Hanzong explained that in the past, people were taught to use wet towels in case of fire, because the building materials and furniture at that time were very simple, wet towels could block some large particles and the escape route was short, so wet towels could be used as escape tools. Modern buildings and interior decoration materials are complex, and a large number of toxic substances can not be filtered by wet towels, but let these harmful substances directly reach the respiratory tract, which in turn leads to instant fainting.

Back to the key question, if you are unfortunately trapped in the fire, how should you escape from the scene? Or wait for help? Cai believes that the biggest threat of most fires is smoke. If you can see a small fire burning, there is basically still time to escape, but you must remember to close the door to prevent the spread of smoke from preventing others from escaping. If you find that the smoke is completely opaque, you must calm down in a safe space and inform the fire brigade to wait for rescue.
