The school was founded by the Ministry of Education 1982 with the support of UNICEF. Formerly known as "Nanjing Normal School for Special Education", it is the first secondary normal school in New China to train special education teachers, which is under the management of the Ministry of Education. 1997 The school is under the management of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.
In 2002, it was upgraded to a junior college and renamed as "Nanjing Vocational and Technical College of Special Education". In 2009, it was established by China Disabled Persons' Federation and Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. In 20 13, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school established "Nanjing Special Education Teachers College". In 20 15, it was officially approved to be upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college.
