What is medical informatics?

Medical informatics is a science that applies the new technology (algorithm) of system analysis tools to study medical management, process control, decision-making and scientific analysis of medical knowledge. It is an interdisciplinary subject of computer science, information science and medicine, with strong application and many basic theoretical studies. The research object of medical informatics has the characteristics of uncertainty, difficulty in measurement and complex interaction between complex components. With the development of computer technology, medical informatics has penetrated into all aspects of medical field: electronic medical record, biological signal analysis, medical image processing, clinical support system, medical decision-making system, hospital information management system, health information resources and so on. Medical informatics has made outstanding contributions in improving medical effect, efficiency and effectiveness, reducing medical expenses and rationally allocating medical resources. As an independent discipline, medical informatics plays an increasingly important role in medical education, medical practice and medical research in western developed countries. Relatively speaking, with the continuous progress of experimental technology, the contribution of bioinformatics lies in finding the biological basis of life phenomena and diseases. The trend of further development is the integration of the two, namely biomedical informatics. This new field will focus on the application of bioinformatics in clinical practice, which will also be the new trend of medical development in 2 1 century.

I used to be the editor of medical information magazine.
