The origin of Jia Yi
Chiayi belongs to Shuowen. Shuowen is a Chinese reference book compiled by Xu Shen, a Confucian scholar and linguist in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is the earliest Chinese dictionary to systematically analyze Chinese characters and study their etymology in China, and it is also one of the earliest dictionaries in the world. There is a passage in Shuowen that says, "Jiaxu, Jiaxu: Jiaxu, Ye Mei."
