I. Dong Shucheng
Dong Shucheng, born in 1932, has devoted himself to mosquito classification, ecological research and personnel training for 60 years. Even after retirement, he still insisted on working hard, setting an example and living endlessly. In 1950s, Yunnan was plagued by plague. Dong Shucheng led the team to collect mosquito specimens in Yunnan and established a huge mosquito database. Even after retirement, the old man immediately returned to his post to continue his work the day after retirement. The studio wanted to give him the salary he was rehired, but the old man donated it in the form of party dues.
Second, study the role of mosquitoes in malaria control.
Mosquitoes are one of the four pests, and there are many kinds, especially in places like Yunnan. Female mosquitoes feed on blood, while male mosquitoes feed on plant juice. Because of this, female mosquitoes can cause many diseases, such as dengue fever, malaria and filariasis. Therefore, the study of mosquitoes is very effective for malaria control. Dong Lao lured the enemy deep by himself, then grabbed the mosquito and planed to determine whether the salivary gland of the mosquito had infectious factors. Because there was no cure for malaria at that time, studying mosquitoes was the research medium. Once the media disappears, malaria will not be so rampant.
Third, Dong Lao's achievements
Dong Lao's achievements are numerous. What makes him most happy is that he spent two years figuring out the growth and decline law of local mosquito species and spreading malaria in each other with targeted mosquito control work. Through the efforts of several generations, Yunnan has made a breakthrough in malaria control. In 2020, Yunnan will have no locally transmitted cases for four consecutive years, achieving the goal of eliminating malaria. This is Dong Lao's happiest thing, and his efforts in his youth have borne fruit.
