Stratovarius - 2005

Stratovarius was founded in 1984 and consists of three young people from Finland and Helsinki. They are drummer and lead singer Tuomo Lassila, bassist John Vihervaauml and guitarist Staffan Straaringahlman. Before they were officially named Stratovarius, the three performed under the name of Blackwater.

Strato Warjus's early music is very different from today's music. At that time, the band was deeply influenced by Black Sabbath and ozzy osbourne, and guitarist Staffan introduced classical music elements to the band. Then bassist John left the band at the end of 1984 and was replaced by Jyrki Lentonen, who had previously performed with Timo Tolkki in a band called Road Block.

1985 Staffan didn't want to stay in Stratovarius, so he left the band one week before Stratovarius planned to perform in aalborg. So Tommo lassila called Teemo Tolkki and asked him if he would like to join the band. Teemo agreed and learned all the songs of the band from the tape. After several rehearsals, strato Warjus went to Denmark. At that time, Tomo was still a drummer and lead singer, and the Happy Team found that due to the limitation of Tomo's vocal range, the band had to find a new lead singer. However, excellent singers are always scarce, so Teemo Tolkki took over as the lead singer. After this transformation, Stratovarius's music began to develop into its present style-the melody has a strong classical music element. After Stratovarius' intense rehearsal and performance in Helsinki, the band finally completed the first demo with this lineup at 1987, including Shocking in the Future, fright night and Night Scream.

This demo was sent to many record companies in Finland, and was finally photographed by CBS Finland when it was performed at Tavastia Club in Helsinki. At the same time, Stratovarius found a new keyboard player Antti Ikonen. The band's first single "Future Shock/Witch Hunting" was recorded in 1988, followed by another single "Screaming in the Black Night" released in 1989, and Stratovarius finally released his debut album "fright night" in May 1989.

Stratovarius experienced intense performance life in the summer and autumn of 1989, and also performed on the outdoor rock in Haauml with metal bands such as anthrax. Then bassist Jyrki Lentonen left the band, Stratovarius was still writing new songs and finished a new demo in early 1990, but CBS lost interest in releasing Stratovarius' new record. Even so, the band didn't give up. They went on rehearsing. After writing the new song, the band can finally record the new record "fright night". Because the band has no distribution contract this time, it can only rely on its own economic strength. Although there are photos of Jari Behm, Stratovarius' new bass player, Teemo actually finished all the bass performances in the album this time. Jari was soon kicked out of the house by Stratovarius because his playing style was not suitable for the band at all.

Stratovarius' second album Stratovarius II was released in Finland at the beginning of 1992. At that time, the overseas market situation of the band became increasingly clear, and the band sent its own tapes to the world. Shark Records signed a contract with the band after listening to Stratovarius' Hand of Time. Finally, the cover of Stratovarius II was re-made, and it was shown all over Europe under the new title of Twilight in 1992+00. Soon after, the imported version began to be released in the Japanese market, and stayed at the former 10 position in Japan for five months, and finally became the best-selling imported album in Japan from 1993. Stratovarius also got a big contract from Japan's JVC Victor Entertainment Company and reissued Twilight on July 1993. Timo Tolkki also flew to Japan for the first time in the same month for publicity, and witnessed the enthusiastic fans of Stratovarius in Japan. The band's popularity in Japan is also soaring. When looking for a new distribution company, the band continued to write new songs in their spare time, and it took 93 years to record these new songs. At the same time, when the record was 70% complete, the new bassist Jari Kainulainen joined the band. At this point, Tomo lassila was seriously injured in his hands due to the accident and could not play drums for eight weeks. When recording a new record, he had to get the drummer Sami Kuoppamaaumlaki from Kingston Wall to finish it together. Sami recorded four singles in one of the records.

Subsequently, Stratovarius' third album Dream Space was released worldwide in February and March of 1994. This album was well received after its release, which once again enhanced the band's reputation. Dream Space contains several of Stratovarius' most classic songs, such as Dream Space, The Fourth Reich and Chasing the Shadow. In September, the band went to Japan to hold Stratovarius' first tour in Japan and met Japanese fans face to face in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. In Helsinki, Finland, Stratovarius gave a performance at the previously famous now closed shadow club-and then went to Japan, where Jari Kainulainen was the first team to participate in the live performance.

Stratovarius has been writing new songs from the spring to the summer of 1994. With the passion of performing in Japan, the band once again entered the studio to record new records. Teemo Tolkki finally realized his long-cherished dream-he recorded a solo album "Classical Variations and Themes". These songs include "Fire Dance Suite" originally written by 1986, The Lord of the Rings and many other influential classic songs. This album was released on 1994 10, and Stratovarius also spent the whole summer recording his fourth album.

At this stage in history, Teemo Tolkki decided to end his lead singer career. In order to continue the development of Stratovarius in the future, the band must find a new lead singer. Just as the band advertised in the local music newspaper, Stratovarius suddenly remembered Timo Kotipelto, who came to contact the band a year and a half ago. Then Teemo Kotipelto got a call from Teemo Tolkki and invited him to audition. The band prepared a song for the audition. When Teemo Kotipelto spoke, everyone knew that he had made a different choice for the band.

The band's fourth album, The Fourth Dimension, is completely led by Timo Kotipelto, and the name of this album speaks for itself. The music in the album has been greatly improved compared with before, but it still retains Stratovarius' pure metal lineage. The fourth dimension 1995 was released in March, and its sales exceeded that of Dreamspace.

Stratovarius then toured Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Finland, Greece and Japan. After these performances, Stratovarius informed the old players Tuomo Lassila and Antti Ikonen to leave the band. There are many reasons for this personnel change in the band. The most important factor is the difference in musical views and interpersonal relationships. These two people just can't accept Teemo Tolkki's idea.

After The Fourth Dimension was a great success, Teemo Tolkki and Teemo Kotipelto hoped to further develop Strava's music. At this time, new drummer Jooumlorg Michael and new keyboard player Jens Johansson joined the band.

The recording and mixing of the band's fifth album took place in Finnvox studio in Helsinki. This album has once again promoted the development of Stratovarius' music, adding the refreshing musical expression and working attitude of Johansson and Michael, and making Stratovarius' music develop into opera, melody and symphonic metal music. This is also the first time that the band has tried to use a 40-member choir and a 20-member orchestra to participate in music production. This album also includes many classic songs of strato and Warjus, such as Father of Time, Eternity and Will the Sun Rise? .

Stratovarius' next album, Vision, was released in April, 1997. As soon as it was released, it immediately reached the fifth position of Finnish album and stayed in the top 40 position for 24 weeks. The propaganda tour of "Vision" is equally grand and unusual, and its footprint is not only in Finland, but also in many countries in Japan, Europe and South America. Visions has sold more than 20,000 copies in Finland, so the band specially held a small party at Tavastia Club in Helsinki on June 1998 to celebrate this victory.

At the same time as the band held a promotional performance of Vision, they recorded the band's first live album, 2CD's Vision of Europe, which was released at the end of March 1998. The duration of the song exceeds 100 minutes, and this album has achieved excellent results in business and criticism.

1April, 998, Stratovarius began to rehearse their next album, that is, their seventh album, Destiny. This album was recorded in Finland's Finnvox studio during the spring and summer of 1998 and officially released on June 5, 998. The first single of the album was made into an EP called SOS, which was released on August 17. After the release, it jumped to the third place in Finland's EP list at an extremely fast speed. Stranger still, Destiny's album list in Finland has climbed to the first place on Thursday, ahead of the official release speed.

In the subsequent 1999, Stratovarius once again broke through the sales of 20,000 pieces of gold with this "destination", but this is only a signal that the good thing has not really come. In the same year, Stratovarius was rated as Finland's best group of the year in the reader survey of Finnish metal music magazine SFP, while their SOS was also rated as China's best MV, and two Timos were selected as "wonderful people"-in short, Stratovarius won numerous honors that year.

At the end of 1999, Stratovarius began to make a new record, which was released by nuclear explosion on February 28th, 2000. The story of strato Warjus will continue like this-forever. ...
