1. Translation of ancient Chinese, lawyer Tang Daoxuan continued the content of biographies of eminent monks, or Biography of Eminent Monks in Tang Dynasty, with 30 volumes or 40 volumes, written by Tang Daoxuan (596~667).

The Miscellaneous Biography of Old Tang Shu Jing Ji Zhi is reproduced in two parts, one of which is twenty volumes; In the Book of the New Tang Dynasty, Yi reprinted three historical categories, two of which were written by Taoism. Average error. In his early years, Daoxuan was interested in the writings of monks.

He thought that Hui Jue's Biography of Eminent Monks recorded too few eminent monks in the Liang Dynasty and needed to be supplemented, so after a considerable period of collecting information, he wrote 30 volumes of Biography of Continued Eminent Monks. From the early leaf of Liang Dynasty to the 19th year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty (645), 144 years, * * * wrote a true story of 33 1 person, with 160 people attached, which was completed in the 19th year of Zhenguan.

However, in the twenty years after the book was written, it was supplemented one after another and became the ten-volume version of the later "Continued Biography of Monks". The title of the book can be found in the tenth volume of Tang Zhenglu written by himself and the hundredth volume of Fayuan Zhu Lin written by his contemporaries. However, these ten volumes were later compiled into the first draft by family, so there are many records of titles such as Yonghui, Xianqing and Longshuo after 19 years of Zhenguan, and the latest is the second year of Linde (665) (see Volume 22, Tan Guangchuan).

Xuanzang died in the first year of Linde, which is also mentioned in Biography (Volume 4). Bi Hui dates back to the last years of Zhenguan (Volume XIII), and The Biography of Monks was written in the twentieth year of Zhenguan (Volume XV). In Yi Jie, it is also mentioned that "Yao () is better than () in Jinling" and "Chang () debate (monk debate) is better than Sanfu".

It can be proved that Xuanzang's Biography, Bi Hui's Biography and Monk's Argumentation were added by Daoxuan himself, and the two theories of translation of classics and interpretation in the first draft were revised accordingly. Dozens of articles are quoted in Zhu Lin, the Origin of Dow. Hui Zhuo quoted in volume 63 (see volume 15 of this biography), Ci Cang quoted in volume 64 (see volume 24 of this biography) and Zhi Cong quoted in volume 65 (see volume 20 of this biography) are all people who died after 19 years of Zhenguan, and the places cited are all called Biography of Tang Priest, which shows that Dow quoted them.

This shows that when Daoxuan was alive, Postscript was merged with the first draft, but the number of volumes was still 30. Therefore, in the Records of Buddhism in Kaiyuan written by Zhisheng in the 18th year of Kaiyuan (730), it is said that ten volumes of Postscript have not been found (see Volume 8). In fact, he mentioned it in the eighth and ninth volumes of Xuanzang Biography.

2. Master Yin Guang's comments on lawyers are all ancient Chinese. Please give them to brothers who can understand them. The first paragraph says that you used to practice the Pure Land Method, but later you gave up. Now you have a good root. If you want to practice now, you must look down on money (Kong Ge is copper coin, which means money), be reasonable, help people to redress their grievances, and don't talk about money.

It is said that wealth can be very attractive, so be wary of this temptation. In the second paragraph, he said that he should be called rejuvenation. If he can act according to the wisdom of Buddha, he will not be tempted by money.

Helping yourself to practice Buddhism with the merits of helping others rehabilitate grievances is like sailing with the wind. Then get rid of this man's Jaken, because he used to practice the Pure Land Method.

Master Yin Guangda said that this is only induction, not proof, and we can't be satisfied and slack because of this little induction. In the future, you should concentrate on Buddhism, and you will feel more and more. This problem that is easy to satisfy slackness will get better. The third paragraph is to recommend him a book "Ten Essentials of Pure Land", so I won't go into details. Let him read quietly and let him know how to practice, such as self-serving and altruistic methods.

Recommend some books and introduce their uses. Then say that I am old, don't write to me again, and don't introduce others to convert. If there is a letter, I will refuse others to write again.

My humble opinion on late learning. For reference only.

I wish you happiness in learning Buddhism, diligence and perseverance, and early proof of Bodhi. There is no amitabha in the south.

Reference translation:

In the eleventh year of Zhenguan, Emperor Taizong said to Wei Zhi, "Is what I have done recently better than before in terms of gains and losses and political consciousness?" Wei Zhi replied: "As far as the prestige of grace is concerned, the situation that foreigners come from afar to pay tribute can't be compared with the early years of Zhenguan. If you are morally connected with the people in secret and the people are happy and convinced, it is far from the early years of Zhenguan. " Taizong said: "People from afar should come to surrender out of virtue of benevolence and righteousness. Why have past achievements become greater? " Wei Zhi said: "In the past, when the world was unstable, we often remembered virtue and justice. Soon, because of national security, we gradually increased our arrogance and complacency. Therefore, although Deyi achieved great success, it never kept up with the early years of Zhenguan. " Taizong also said, "What's the difference between what you did before?" Wei Zhi said: "In the early years of Zhenguan, I was worried that others would not talk, so I led everyone to give advice. Three years later, when I saw someone giving me advice, I was happy to adopt and listen. In the last year or two, I don't like suggestions from others. Although I try my best to listen and accept, I am always unhappy. It is really embarrassing. " Taizong said, "In what ways?" Wei Zhi replied: "Lawyer Yuan was sentenced to death in the early days of his accession to the throne. Sun advised:' There is no need to sentence him to death according to law, and the law should not be severely punished without restraint. "Your majesty gave him Princess Lanling's garden, worth ten thousand yuan. Some people say,' What Sun said is general, and the reward is too generous.' Your majesty said at that time,' since I took the throne, no one has made any suggestions, so I gave him a reward.' This is to guide everyone to remonstrate. Liu Xiong, the manager of Xuzhou, proudly and slowly gave the salary level to the people left behind by the Sui Dynasty. When someone accused him, His Majesty ordered Liu Xiong to plead guilty, otherwise he would be found guilty. Liu Xiong has always insisted that it was handled according to the facts, but refused to admit it. When Dali Temple discovers Liu Xiong's fraud, it will put Liu Xiong to death. Shao Qing Dai Zhou said that according to the law, he should only be sentenced to imprisonment. Your Majesty said, "I have tried Liu Xiong and should only be sentenced to death. Dai Zhou said:' Since your Majesty thinks what I said is wrong, please hand me over to the judicial department immediately. Crime does not deserve to die, and torture cannot be used indiscriminately. "Your majesty was very angry and sent someone to kill Liu Xiong. Dai Zhou persisted for four or five times, and then pardoned Liu Xiong. So he said to the people in the judicial department,' As long as you can uphold the rule of law for me, are you still afraid of abusing punishment to kill foreigners? This is to accept the advice gladly. A few years ago, Cheng Huangfude of Shaanxi County wrote a letter that violated the will of the Holy Father, which your Majesty considered to be slander. As I said last time, writing letters is not intense or urgent, and it can't inspire the will of the monarch. Intense and urgent are similar to slander. At that time, although I listened to my words and gave twenty kinds of goods, I felt very uncomfortable and it was difficult to accept suggestions. Taizong said, "Indeed, no one can say such a thing except you. Everyone suffers from not being able to find their own shortcomings. When you didn't say it just now, I thought what I did hadn't changed. After listening to your comments, my mistake is amazing. As long as you keep such loyalty, I won't go against your words after all. "
