Hutong characteristics of Zhao Ji Hutong

Duan, male, 1865, from Hefei, Anhui. 1885, Duan was admitted to the Artillery Division of Tianjin Ordnance School. After graduation, he was sent to Germany by Li Hongzhang to study military command because of his excellent grades. 1890, Duan returned to China and was constantly entrusted with important tasks. Because he is smart and capable, and he is good at reading words and senses, he has won the trust of Yuan Shikai. After Yuan Shikai stole the president of the Republic of China, Duan was appointed commander-in-chief of the army. Later, after Li succeeded as president, Duan was promoted to prime minister. At the end of 1924, the provisional administrative government of the Republic of China was established, and Duan was still the prime minister. At this time, Duan's mansion settled in Fengtou Hutong.

Although Duan has been abroad and is the so-called prime minister of the Republic of China, he is a very superstitious person. He always felt that it was ominous and unseemly for Premier Tang to live in an alley called "chicken shed". In order to please him, the subordinate who is good at flattery renamed the hutong as "auspicious hutong", which means "auspicious forever"

However, "good omen" did not bring good luck to Duan. 1in March, 926, Duan frantically suppressed patriotic students who petitioned and marched, creating a bloody "March 18th massacre", which aroused great anger among the people of the whole country. He was soon forced to step down and finally died in desolation.

"Good omen" didn't save him, let alone bring him "eternal good luck".
