Animal stars in Guilin Zoo

Over the past half century, Guilin Zoo has successively raised six giant pandas, including No.9, Weilun, Meimei, Tao Tao, Yue Yue and Yang Yang. The recent Olympic giant pandas "Feng Yi" and "Mei Xin" will be the 7th and 8th giant pandas in Guilin Zoo.

Eight giant pandas made Guilin have an indissoluble bond.

In the early 1960s, after the completion of Guilin Zoo, the Seven-Star Scenic Area had an indissoluble bond with the giant panda. In the mid-1960s, shortly after the opening of Guilin Zoo, the female panda "No.9" came to Qixing Scenic Area from Sichuan, becoming the first giant panda owned by Guilin people. Under the careful care of the scenic zoo, No.9 lived happily in Guilin for 20 years and died on June 1985.

Shortly after his death on the 9th, Guilin Zoo rented a male giant panda "Wei Lun" from Chongqing Zoo, and "Wei Lun" lived in Guilin for several months, which brought a lot of joy to Guilin citizens. 1985 ended and "weilun" returned to Chongqing.

From 65438 to 0985, bamboo bloomed and died once every 60 years in the giant panda producing area, and the giant panda faced a serious survival crisis due to lack of food. Fortunately, Guilin Zoo rescued two giant pandas, Meimei and Tao Tao, from the wild. Unfortunately, Tao Tao is weak. He came to Guilin, where the scenery is the best in the world and he only lived for one year. Finally, because of his serious illness, he left this beautiful city forever. Mei Mei is taken good care of in Guilin Zoo. The breeder fed Mei Mei velvet antler and Sun Shen oral liquid, and finally helped her through the health difficulties in Guilin, becoming more and more beautiful and becoming a "great beauty". She spent 20 spring and autumn seasons in Guilin Zoo comfortably and happily until her death on July 12, 2005. Meimei, a giant panda, also achieved a longevity of 36 years under artificial breeding conditions, becoming the longest-lived giant panda under artificial captivity. The death of Meimei, the treasure of the town garden, greatly damaged the zoo, which was going from bad to worse at that time.

There is a lot of laughter in the zoo without giant pandas. Under the strong expectation of Guilin citizens and tourists at home and abroad, on June 5438+February 65438+February 8, 2005, Yue Yue, the star mother panda who participated in the film Baby Panda, arrived in Guilin by plane and stayed in the Panda House where Meimei once lived. On September 20th, 2007, "Yue Yue" moved into the new Panda Pavilion-Guilin Science Education Base of China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center. The new panda house is built on the mountain, including a panda kitchen, a panda specimen room and three bedrooms. The spacious venue gives Yue Yue a more comfortable space for activities.

"Yang Yang" is the sixth giant panda, male, raised in Qixing Scenic Area. In the autumn of 200 1 year, he was found to be seriously ill on the mountain of Baishuijiang Nature Reserve in Gansu Province. After treatment, his condition improved and he was transferred to China Research Center for the Protection of Giant Panda (located in Wolong Nature Reserve, Sichuan). On September 28th, 2007, "Yang Yang" lived in Guilin, came to the new Panda Pavilion and lived next to "Yue Yue". Under the arrangement of the zoo staff, "Yang Yang" and "Yue Yue" had a blind date once, but failed to show their dignified and gentle side. They were slapped by the angry "Yue Yue", and the pandas finally failed to get married. Yang Yang's colorful life in Guilin ended on August 28th, 2009, and he returned to the Bifengxia base in Ya 'an, China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center as agreed. "Yue Yue" still lives happily in the Panda Pavilion as a "leftover woman".

From June 5438 to February 2009, two Olympic giant pandas "Feng Yi" and "Meixin" officially settled in Guilin. The arrival of these Olympic treasures will add new highlights to Guilin, a world-famous tourist city, and bring more joy to Guilin citizens and tourists.
