Battle of Ningyuan

Battle of Ningyuan

In the 11th year of Wanli, Nurhachi rose up and gradually unified the ministries of Jurchen, then attacked Mongolia and sent troops to the Ming Dynasty. We saw such a scene. Before the battle of Ningyuan, Nurhachi created an invincible and invincible myth.

As the founder of the last feudal dynasty in China, Jin Yong, a master of martial arts novels, once praised him as "a military genius that has never appeared in the world since Genghis Khan for more than 400 years."

Who would have thought that Nurhachi died only half a year after the Ningyuan War? Ningyuan, located in the western Liaoning corridor between Beijing and Shenyang, 60 kilometers away from Shanhaiguan, is the throat artery for the northeast to enter Shanhaiguan, and has been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times.

On the 15th day of the first month of A.D. 1626, 68-year-old Nurhachi led a so-called 100,000-strong army to attack Ningyuan, which was guarded by Yuan Chonghuan. This year, Yuan Chonghuan just turned 43.

In front of Nurhachi, Yuan Chonghuan is just a junior, but in this battle, Yuan Chonghuan will emerge in front of his predecessors.

In order to meet the invading enemy, Yuan Chonghuan set up a red 1 1 gun on the wall of Ningyuan.

This kind of cannon was made in Britain in the early days and was the most advanced cannon in the world at that time. It has long barrel, thick wall, long range and great power.

On the fourth day of the war, Yuan Chonghuan found that the attack of the late Jin soldiers was getting more and more fierce, and ordered the shelling with red guns. In a flash, there were countless deaths and injuries at the gates, and the soldiers in the latter Jin Dynasty dared not move forward.

All kinds of historical data show that Nurhachi was wounded by shells. "Slaves and thieves attacked Ningyuan, shot and killed a big leader, wrapped in red cloth, and were taken captive by thieves."

Zhang Dai, a writer in the Ming Dynasty, also recorded such a situation in the Stone Chamber. "If the gun goes too far, it will kill Beiqi and hurt the king. Beiqi said that it was unfavorable to send troops, wrapped in skin and cried and ran. "

It is the above record that makes people think that Nurhachi died because he was seriously injured by a shell. There are big loopholes in this statement, mainly two points:

First, if Nurhachi was really badly wounded, Yuan Chonghuan could not have been unaware of it, and he also sent envoys to the Houjin military camp to check it out. More crucially, neither Yuan Chonghuan himself won a great victory in Ningyuan nor the imperial edict of the Ming court commending Yuan Chonghuan and others made any mention of Nurhachi's serious injury.

2. After Nurhachi's fiasco in Ningyuan, there are still eight months between his death in the first month and August. During this period, Nurhachi did not stay in bed for illness, but renovated the boat and car, tried to practice firearms, and prepared to retaliate against Ningyuan. In June of that year, Barghoorn Huang Taiji of Mongolian Horqin Department came to worship, and Nurhachi also went out of the city to meet Shili, unlike a seriously injured person at all.

So, how did Nurhachi die?

One is Ningyuan's fiasco, which makes the mighty Nurhachi depressed;

Secondly, all the year round, Nurhachi broke down from overwork, and he was still 68 years old;

Once again, he died of gangrene and was seriously ill.
