Analysis of the protagonist in The Bluest Eye

The Bluest Eye is a tragic novel, which describes the abuse and suffering of the protagonist Picola brid Lowa. Picola is a young American girl, and her mother has long known that her very dark daughter will not be an attractive girl when she grows up. The story of the novel takes place in 1940. The first person in the novel is Claudia McThiel, who is two years younger than Picola and is Picola's only friend. In an era dominated by white people, Picola, as a black person, began to believe that her life would be much better if her skin was white, and she also regarded blue eyes as a symbol of white people. She watched her father Jolly brid Bridlowa gradually become a thug with the disillusionment of her dreams, and as an African-American, her father was constantly frustrated and humiliated because of his background; Her mother Pauline entered a clean and tidy white family as a maid.

One spring afternoon, Picola's father came home from drinking and raped Picola. At that time, there were only two people at home, she and her father. Picola was pregnant when her father raped her again. Due to physical and mental injuries, Picola was more eager to escape from reality, so she went to visit the liar priest Micah Elihu whitcomb-Micah served as a priest in the famous Soafid Church, and Picola asked Micah to give her a pair of blue eyes. For money, Mika claimed that she could help Picola realize his dream, but only if Picola had to perform a task for him first. Mika had long wanted to get rid of an old sick dog, so she gave Picola a piece of poisonous meat for Picola to feed to the old dog, and lied to Picola that only in this way could her wish be realized. Picola was frightened to see the old dog struggling painfully on the ground after eating poisonous meat, and finally died.

This scare, coupled with the previous rape, made Picola crazy and completely divorced from reality. Picola thinks that she does have a pair of blue eyes, and she also fantasizes that she has a bosom friend, who is always by her side and cherishes herself, because she has the bluest eyes in the world.
