Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics is a national key university of science and engineering with aerospace and civil aviation characteristics directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China. It is also one of the key universities under the national "21Project" and "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". It is one of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" and "11Plan" jointly established by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
The school's predecessor was 10, which was founded on the basis of 5 1952 10 factory in October. It is one of the earliest aviation colleges established in New China. 1978 was identified as a national key university by the State Council; 198 1 approved by the State Council, it became the first batch of universities in China with the right to confer doctoral degrees, with graduate schools.

Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has two campuses, the Forbidden City and Jiangjun Road, covering an area of nearly 2,600 mu, with a construction area of more than 700,000 square meters and a library of more than 2.96 million books. At present, there are 44 undergraduate majors, 127 master's programs, 52 doctoral programs (including 10 first-class disciplines) and 9 post-doctoral mobile stations, involving 8 disciplines and 37 first-class disciplines. Aircraft design, mechanical manufacturing and automation, and engineering mechanics are three national key disciplines, eight disciplines such as fluid mechanics, communication and information system, and micro air vehicle design and manufacturing are key disciplines of the Science, Technology and Industry Committee for National Defense, and five disciplines such as mechanical manufacturing and automation, aerospace propulsion theory and engineering, navigation guidance and control, power electronics and power transmission, and computer application technology are key disciplines of Jiangsu Province.
