Translation of Long Yuanyi Ji Shu

Long Yuan, also known as Longquan, changed its name to avoid the taboo of Tang Dynasty Emperor Li Yuan. According to legend, this place is the place where Ou Yezi made swords, and there is still a stream called Jianxi. The mountains and rivers here are dangerous, far away from the big cities with convenient communication, some of which reach two or three hundred miles, and even the nearest one is nearly half the distance. Rural children have no place to go to school. Zhang Jun's ancestors once regarded this as a heart disease, and later planned to establish two academies, Guishan and Xianyan, which were soon abandoned because there was no real estate such as land, countryside and houses. Zhang Jun was very sad about this and discussed with everyone: "Without land, there would be no academy. How can it be? " So the daily expenses were saved, and the money saved was used to buy 150 mu of land. When Chen Jing, his wife's brother, heard about it, he used 23 1 mu of land left by his great grandfather, Mr. Shi Zhai, to support him. Zhang Jun said, "I'm done!" So he chose the northern part of Guanshan Mountain and established Yanju to worship the sage Confucius. Yan Hui, the former teacher, enjoyed the sacrifice, and in the Spring and Autumn Period, he held a tray to worship the former teacher. Later, the Justice Hall was opened, and drums were played on the first and fifteenth day of each month, which gathered many wise men and bound the five relationships of monarch, minister, father and son, brother, husband and wife and friends. In front of the Academy, a gate was built, which read "Long Yuan Yishu" and paved with bricks, which is an east-west access road. The academy is surrounded by bushes, bamboo stands, and the pavilion is very lush.

Hire a person of good character as a lecturer every year. Many students who have made progress in their studies are rewarded every month; For those with outstanding talents and poor families, they will be funded to complete their studies; Punish those who don't follow the teaching. Are responsible for land tax revenue and expenditure and temporary affairs in charge of bookstores. Daily expenses are recorded. 1 month 1 day to check the profit and loss, and roll the accounts twice a year. If there are savings, they will be stored separately, and more land will be acquired to expand the industry. Set up private schools in Shihua, Xiangxi and other places to educate the Chen family. When they grow up, they will study in Long Yuan. This is the general situation.

After hearing about it, the political history of Jiangsu and Zhejiang appreciated his righteous act very much and ordered him to be exempted from the legal corvee in this county, so that they could not turn over. Zhang Jun later listed these terms; I wrote it on the stone tablet in order, and I was worried that future generations would not last until the end, so I was sent to write it down.

Although the people who built bookstores in ancient times were different in scale, they were consistent in guiding the people to be decent and rectifying the world. Zhang Jun was opinionated in this respect, and didn't take the secular strategy of amassing wealth and cherishing family property as his solid strategy, so he built a bookstore and hired teachers, so as to inherit the good of his ancestors. He has great ambitions and great achievements. Chen Jing's brothers were kind and upright, which helped him achieve his career. If they didn't come to the bookstore and infiltrate the crowd there, how could they do so? Zhang Jun's descendants should always take inheriting Zhang Jun's ambition (running a good school) as their career, not just making themselves rich and selfish. If we don't create disputes between people and cultivate cronies to compete with each other, we will probably live up to Zhang Jun's wishes. If so, schools in Zhang Jun will be handed down from generation to generation, which will be of great benefit to future generations.
