The founding history of the Brookings Institution
The founder of Brookings Institution is Robert Brookings, a businessman and philanthropist from St. Louis. The Brookings Institution was founded in 19 16. The Institute of Political Studies established by 19 16, the Institute of Economic Studies established by 1922 and the Robert Brookings Institute of Economic and Political Studies established by 1924 were merged. It was named after the vice chairman of the board of directors when the institution was founded, an entrepreneur in St. Louis and the University of Washington.
